I missed the question about slugs Joni.

Yes, I have tried them and they feed perfectly in my 1300 but in the 870 they MAY give you trouble.
Most people say that they work fine as long as you aren't lazy about working the action(pump fast).
Worst case the elevator may need to be extended slightly but it isn't too big of a thing.

I was quite pleased with them since the recoil is WAY less that the regular stuff I shoot.
It was nice to get the wife some time on the shotgun without her whining.
I love my 1300 with the 26" bird barrel but that 20" slug barrel (with rifle sights) whollops the bejesus out of you.

I found them marginally less accurate but only past 40 yards so who cares?
I could still shoot 5 into a 4 inch circle at 50 yards.

Again, this was a slug barrel with rifle sights and I can reliably (as in every time) hit a propane can (grill size) at 100 yards with no rest when shooting normal Winchester 1oz slugs.
I didn't try the propane can at 100 with these.

order at least 2 boxes, maybe 5
these are to fun to just have a few !!!!!

Have you looked into porting the slug tube? I used to work with for Hans Vang (VangComp) years ago and got to play with some of his toys. Tames the short tubes so that even Mags are not punishing.

26" is threaded for tubes but the slug barrel isn't and to be honest I would hate to mess with it since it shoots so well.

Did you know that most ported choke tubes "brake" the shot load and increase pattern size.

A simple way to see if you ported tube is doing this is to recover a fired shot cup and look for little "nibbles" around the base where it obturates.
As the little "skirt" at the bottom of the cup hits the ports the pressure forces the soft plastic cup to deform into the port holes which catch and cut it.

The amount of increase in pattern size can vary by quite a bit but IIRC it was around 5% or so.
Not a HUGE thing but I thought I would share since you seem to be the sort of person who would care.

At the ranges I use it at, not an issue. It's not a sporter of any kind and it doesn't play games. It's a tool, Now if we got onto single shots.... heheh

    I know.
My friend has a $5000 Leudig (sp) sounds like Loo - dig

anyways, he couldn't hit a tree with it if he turned it around and swung it

I've been working with him though and he has improved DRASTICALLY

how much is DRASTICALLY you ask?

    well, he was hitting 1 - 20
now we have him hitting like 10 - 20

I told him to go buy a nice semi
    like a Beneli or something

he comes out with a damn M4 !!

believe it or not I have him hitting 13 ou of 20 with that thing now!
    How you ask?

right before I would throw the clay I would yell " Stop looking at the stupid ghost rings dammit !!"
Now that I got him to stop trying to aim at the bird he is doing great
    He'll never be me (I'm pissed if I shoot 18-20 and I'm embarrassed if I shoot 17-20)
he'll never be me but then again he shot IPSC and can whoop me with a pistol
    (for now... muuuhahahahah)

Hi I was just thinking of something.

Isn't it very dangerous to shoot a shotgun in your bedroom?
Bedrooms are usually located close together, and interior walls are not that strong, made of hollow ricks in the est case and plasterboard in the worst case.

Even if you are a good (or great shooter), would'nt you risk missing your target and shooting your kids in the next room?
Especially with double ought buck shot, what is the spread per meter (or yard or whatever)?
You could end up shooting your kids as well as whomever you are shooting at.

Would slugs not be safer for indoor use?
Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Steering this back to a meaningful topic... Robert i liked the knofe you opened the discussion with... Show us MORE!!

As for the rest of the thread... concussion grenades, bouncing betty land mines in the yard, HK mp5, mossberg 500 open choke, flescette round, 1 1/4oz slug, mixed #2 and #5 LEAD shot, flescette round, 3/4oz sabot slugs then #00, colt 1911a on the nightstand, glazers in hte mag, two loaded mags of old-style black talons in the drawer. the concept is enough firepower to make it to the armory.
but i know of worse... i have neighbors with hedghogs, tank traps, landscaping tha involved blasting so they have a 20' vertical sold wall, bunkers, escape tunnels... all this went in after the stupidity of Waco. I'm not that mad.
but i'm guessing GW would fit right in.
    Be just and fear not.

In the house I have found the best fodder for the shotgun is bird shot. After punching through a wall it has spent all it's leathal energy and is pushing it to even wound the cat I've had many discussions in this area and this is what I use, and feel it's all thats needed in the house.

When you get right down to it I think for the common everyday crackhead intruder (stereotype?) just looking down the barrel of a 12 ga is enough to make them reconsider whether they really want your plasma or stereo...
