    Default How much do you weigh, and are you ok with it?

    With a demanding job, a house to renovate and a small kid walking around (now 2), my sports activities had dwindled to zero, while my weight increased to 80.5 kg (177 pounds according to google). For my 1.76 m that is too much imo.
    Not to mention that my physical condition has declined as well.

    3 weeks ago I bought an excercise bike because I wanted to do something about my weight and lack of physique, and because my wife wants to do the same now that the baby is here.
    Combined with the fact that I leave the candy / soda / beer alone, I am losing slightly over 1 pound per week while building up my physique.
    I also do sit-ups / push-ups / ... to build up muscle again.

    My goal is to get back to 72 kg (159 pounds) which is what I weighed when doing martial arts 6 times per week when I was 20.
    At approx 1 pound per week I should get there in 3 months time.

    Any of you in the same situation? Or have you just given in and surrendered

    Its a struggle to make the time and find the energy. I try to workout (circuit weight training and martial arts) 5-6 times a week . I think diet is really important though. I've found that if I can eat clean (lean protien, healthy carbs, veggies, no junk food, etc.) and eat smaller meals and snacks 5-6 times a day, the fat just drops off. Its a lifestyle change.

    I weigh 77 kilograms/170 lbs but I usually swim a mile a day and lift weights. It's not easy at all to find time to do all that, but I usually reserve an hour and a half or so at night or in the morning to workout, and most of the time I do the bulk of my weightlifting on the weekends. My weight will probably drop down to 75kg/165lbs when I start swimming full time in the fall.
    Oh yeah...I try to stay away from meat unless it's lean like wild game and I eat lots of fresh veggies and fruit.

    5'6" (1.6764 m) weighing at 131 lbs (59.4206 kg). Too light, in my opinion. According to my BMI, I'm at a very normal weight though. At home I don't have a gym readily accessible, so I don't work out as much. However at school the gym's like right there so I work out everyday, and gained 2-3 lbs/day. I hope to keep that up. I'm also changing my diet.

    Before like 6th grade-ish, I used to be overweight. I revised my diet so I ate less in general. But my vegitable/fruit:meat ratio increased. Now, for the most part, I eat lean meats (fish, poultry). Sometimes for variation I throw in some red meat (beef, veal, lamb).

    To lose more weight, I suggest revising your diet even more. Don't do anything drastic as it will result in you gaining more weight in the end, just gradually get into a new diet. You may want to change to a 6 or 8 meal/day plan. Each meal should be very light. The idea is that you're never hungry, and never full. This will increase your metabolism. Cut down on carbohydrates (don't eliminate it completely). When you start to smell sweet, like sugar, you know you've cut down too much and have started eating away at your muscles.

    For the carbohydrates, go with whitebread or pasta. Wheat bread is to help your heart, but it releases insulin, so it actually doesn't help to lose weight. Pasta is one of the greatest sources for carbohydrates. It's also metabolism booster!

    General rule of thumb: avoid anything in a bag or a can. Try to eat things as fresh as possible.

    As for your workout, run or bike everyday. Since you're a male, you're probably aren't as geared towards cardio. Women's body is a lot more geared towards cardio workouts than men's are, in general. Try to keep your cardio at about half an hour/day. Your wife can do a lot more if she wishes. If you wish, you can proceed to muscle building. Do note that muscles are more dense than fat. So while you may start to look really lean, your weight may actually go up. After your workout, drink skim milk to help muscle production. I also like to eat peanut m&m's. From what I've been told m&m's were originally developed by the military to as a quick and portable source of energy. Goobers are made of simple proteins, and are broken down quickly, so they're good after a workout. Put them together and you have a peanut m&m. Complex proteins like beef and lamb take a while to breakdown, so you need something in addition to those.

    Keep track of all your progress. It's a great motivator.

    If you want something really effective to get rid of the weight fast, see a dietrician or something. They can give you a diet (maybe exercise program?) that's specifically tailored to your needs and your body. Everybody is different and they all have different goals. So not every diet or workout is universal for everyone.

    Oh, the reason I'm not heavier is since I haven't been working out everyday like at school I've lost a lot of weight. Metabolism is slowed down due to, not only growth, but hunger.

    Another option rather than seeing a dietrician and getting a personal trainer is to just do a lot of research. The internet most certainly has a wealth of information readily available. I believe Men's Health's site has a opportunity for you to sign up listing your goals and you can get online help for free! On top of getting the proper diet and exercise workouts, they provide a forum for people with similar goals. Just note that you might need to be more specific in your goals than just "loosing weight." There's a number of different goals that fit under that very general category. Oh and don't forget you do have a library filled with books published by professionals on what certain foods and workouts are for. They can lend just as much information as the internet, and they're probably more qualified.

    I'm working on getting down to around 200, although I'm more concerned with the way my clothes fit than what the actual # is.

    Bring them to your tailor to be adjusted. Or if you're looking to redo your closet, that would be a great opportunity to do so! What I'm planning on doing now is if I like something, but it's too big, I'll bring them to a tailor and just have them refit it. I like my clothing to have a specific fit, and with my small size, I find it rather difficult to find clothes with that certain fit. So I plan on getting them to a tailor to get them all refitted.

    The question is not if the glass half full or half empty. It's the content of the glass that's important. If the glass is filled with shit, I would say the glass is half full of shit. If the glass is filled with baby blood, then it's a bit more complex. Now you need to ask is the blood going to a baby or from a baby? If it's to a baby, I would say all right we have a half empty glass of baby blood. But if it's from a baby, then whoa, we have a half full glass of baby blood? Why is the baby loosing blood? Why are we collecting it in a cup?

    5'6" (1.6764 m) weighing 155 lbs (70.3068 kg). My BMI lists me as approaching obese, but I would disagree. I have a 40" (101.6cm) chest and a 32" (81.28cm) waist. I guess I'm just a little stocky.

    I abandoned the use of a vehicle for transportation to and from work (resistance to oil dependency), so I have a brisk daily walk of about 2 miles. Yes, I could be more physically fit, but two children under the age of three make use of most of my "free time".

    Weight is a terrible way to judge anything. I personally think i am over weight but I have learned to not care about the actual # part but more on my body fat percentage.

    BMI is a bad numbering system as well as it is only your height and weight that are calculated into it. With a good assessment you get those and your regular calorie burn (at a resting rate, meaning for myself if I sat and did nothing for a whole day I would burn about 2300 calories [as of last week's assessment])

    My numbers:
    6 foot 4 inches = 1.9304 meters
    220 pounds = 99.7903214 kilograms
    Body fat % = 18.4%
    Resting Calorie Burn = 2284 calories
    water percentage = 64% (which was low really)

    Weight is a HUGE fluxuation especially if you are drinking the correct amount of water. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat, and this is why I am not concerned I weigh 99.8 kg's because I am slimming up from going to the gym 4 times a week and having beach volleyball every Wednesday's.

    The optimal range for men is to have a body fat percentage of between 8 - 20 %. Last year I was at 22% when I started my gym membership, and now i have gone down 4% which makes me happy.

    I am still not comfortable with how I look without a shirt, as my chest is not totally fat still but whatever.

    So, Gentlemen be proud of how you look and do not worry about the damn scale, as that needle jumps around too much. Get an assessment done where you can find out body fat percentage, calorie burn, and water intake these will be better factors. You can also subtract your water percentage from your total weight given to figure your bone, muscle, fat weight.
