Thanked: 9True story: one of my friends in NY was overweight since high school, then he got into cycling, went nuts, actually. To the point of starting to win Central Park races, etc. Also serious diet, leaned up and all, optimized everything for cycling performance.
Trouble is, his wife complained that she liked him better when he was "fat and happy" vs the lean and mean attitude / constantly grumpy
Cheers

Hm. When doing martial arts I also worked out at the gym, but slightly different from you guys.
I worked with a bar with no weights on.
Seriously. Imagine a guy working out, doing bench presses and bicep excercises with just the bar.
Of course, I was not trying to build up muscle mass. I didn't need it.
I trained for explosiveness and endurance so did did rounds of 100 - 200 reps as fast as I could, trying to put an explosion in each rep.
Laugh all you want but it is hard. When one of the muscle guys laughed about it, I told him 'Well lets see you do this then.' He tried and that was the end of all comments.
On the bike I do half an hour (35 minutes now) at a sustained heart rate of 150 bpm to burn calories and build stamina. I want to get to 1 hour because that is the time I spend in a squash court if I play.
I also don't want to build muscle mass, just put some strength back in my body.
I want to be lean and quick. Not big and muscular. basic strength excercises should suffice, and with lower body weight, I am quicker and don't tire as quick while playing. Not to mention that my clothes fit better.
As for deviation in weight, I've found that weighing myself in the morning after a visit to the toilet yields the most consistent and reproducable results.
Thanks for all the tips. Especially the dietary ones. Imo, a diet is a lifestyle that you should be able to live, not just a temporary lack of calory intake.Last edited by Bruno; 08-03-2007 at 09:46 PM.
