Thanked: 3227Measles
Lots of noise has been made this year about the come back measles is making around the world. The latest news out of Samoa should give anyone pause who has doubts about the benefits of the MMR vaccine. Sadly, most of the deaths could likely have been avoided had the Samoan population had a high enough vaccination rate. I am beginning to really dislike the anti vaccination movement.

Many people today don't have a clue as to what it was like before vaccines. I grew up knowing several people wearing braces on their legs because they were born a few years before the polio vaccine was available, and I remember photos of people lying in an iron lung because their ability to breath was affected. I remember staying home extremely ill from each of the common infections, chicken pox, mumps, and measles, and still have a few scars to prove it. Doctors still made house calls in those days, and didn't want infected children in their office exposing others, so Dr. Cats (it was probably spelled Katz, but I a doctor named "cats" was funny to me. I was fortunate and didn't suffer some of the severe sequelae that many did. I live in a state where many people don't vaccinate their children as they believe the propaganda that is spread on the internet, the same people who don't trust science and don't believe in climate change. I'm infuriated when one of the unvaccinated children exposes medically vulnerable people to these illnesses, such as infants who are too young to have been vaccinated or have yet to develop an immunity, or the aged or those who are medically fragile. Those opposed to vaccines should have to care for a young child near death in the hospital from a severe case of whooping cough.

Thanked: 4827Well two things that never get old is dark humour and unvaccinated children.
The historic data show that the numbers of lives saved by vaccines is very high. I’m sorry the children don’t get to choose. Anti vaccine people have not witnessed the sweeping devastation caused by outbreak, and cannot fathom the choice. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 13246I just saw the report about Samoa, it really set me back in my chair, all I kept saying was WHY ???
But I see posts on FB from people that firmly believe that ALL vaccines are dangerous, it simply makes no sense to me
What I really don't understand is the belief that the Government is forcing vaccines on children, I keep asking the same question "Where is that law written" and get vague answers
Crazy stuff"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

I am one of those who remembers iron lungs, deaths from various other diseases and deaths from their aftereffects. A few of my classmates did not finish the school year, and Memorials in classrooms were not uncommon.

Here in California, there's a state law that requires that children be
vaccinated for a range of diseases, or they won't be admitted to public
school. There's an "opt out" clause, but it only applies for K-6. I guess
you could call that "forcing" a kid to be vaccinated, but IMHO it's stupid
and dangerous not to vaccinate your kids, law or no law.
When I was in grade school, up until about the 3rd grade, there was no polio
vaccine. I can tell you that we were all scared to death of getting polio. Then
the field trials of the Salk vaccine began.
The program was called Polio Pioneers. Half of the school kids were given the
Salk vaccine, and half were given a placebo. Unfortunately, our school got
the placebo, and my next door neighbor got polio. He spent the rest of his
life walking with a gimp and without the use of his left arm.
My kids were born in Tonga, and the only vaccine required was for smallpox.
We brought them to the States, and they got the whole spectrum. Tonga
(which is near Samoa) now is struggling with over 400 reported cases of
measles, and at long last is getting serious about mandatory inoculations.
Long time too much stupid. Better late than ever.Last edited by PaulKidd; 12-05-2019 at 05:59 PM. Reason: typo

Thanked: 3227Not having witnessed first hand the devastation caused by disease outbreaks cuts no mustard with me as an excuse not to get vaccinated. That is unless you are an animal who can't read history. It is all there in black and white for all to see. I also don't believe it should be a choice to get vaccinated as a child. There should be penalties if a non vaccinated person causes an infection in an another person. Just like there is for impaired driving, which if caught you pay a penalty for endangering the rest of the herd by your actions.

Well i can see that my view won't be popular but i'll give it anyway. I can't say that all vaccines should be avoided, but one should at least question the logic that makes a 12 hour old baby get a hepatitis b shot. Unless it's parents test positive it is very unlikely that is is going to have sex or play with dirty needles. In order to make most of these vaccines work they must include something like aluminum (a known nerve toxin) forms of mercury or formaldehyde.
The pharmaceutical company's are also protected by the federal government against law suites(see the 1986 act) and there is also a vaccine injury compensation program set up by the federal government to compensate people injured by vaccines (they have awarded several billion dollars so far)
The rate of autism has risen from 1 in 2000 in the 80s to 1 in 150 currently.
I personally know a man who's grand daughter was developing normally and even speaking until a round of vaccines and is now severaly autistic.
can you imagine the outrage and the law suites (oh wait, they can't be sued) if they were the cause? Wouldn't they have every reason in the world to cover it up?Last edited by tintin; 12-05-2019 at 10:07 PM.

People take the advances of modern medicine for granted. They have no idea that less than 100 years ago scores of people died from simple infections for which today you wont even get admitted to the hospital.
