The neighbouring Province of Manitoba has been very hard hit with Covid 19 to the point where their ICU capacity has been pushed past it's limit. Covid patients requiring ICU care have been sent to neighbouring Provinces of Ontario and Saskatchewan for treatment. Last I checked we had 5 from Manitoba in our local hospital. Even the Military has been called in for support in Manitoba.

Sorry to hear of the hard hit Province, but glad to hear that the help is there.

Your medical system is different than ours but.....

This sounds like way overkill and an excuse for the military to use their planes.

Sounds to me like a good way to keep the soldiers off their dead asses, keep them on their toes with actual missions instead of just training exercises and transport the sickened without risking infecting others.

We do use our military in more humanitarian roles I think. We don’t have a separate division for that with our underfunded system.
I am hopeful they turn the tide on the prairies. Good people in the middle of the country.

You'll never know how thankful I am that our health care system is different.

When you have to move a number of Covid 19 victims, in some cases in excess of 2 hours flight time, in order to get them to an ICU for proper care using Military C130s is better than using the small twin engined medivac planes. The C130s easily convert to handle a number of patients in isolation. The small medivac planes likely can only do 1 person in possible isolation. In all likely hood the C130s would be flying empty or partially empty in a lot of cases to just get the crews the needed air time. Doing something more meaning full is then a no cost bonus.

This is a quote from the article posted.

"The plane can transport two patients at a time, six medical personnel and four flight crew personnel."

It appears to me it would be easier to bring the equipment to the patient rather than the patient to the equipment.

That would be a yes and a no. The equipment that is in place along with the trained staff are needed where it is even if not fully utilised at the moment. Seems you never know when Covid 19 is going to spike in any given area. It was not too long ago we were in the position that Manitoba is in now and some of our patients were transferred around Ontario. Now locally at least we have room in our Covid 19 ICU to help others out from Ontario and Manitoba as needed. Just easier to leave equipment and trained staff in place and bring the patients to them instead of constantly shifting those around.

It's a big plane. I bet it could carry more than two, but that two was all that was needed.
If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.

Heck we should just get amaxon or speedy delivery deliver patients! LOL

This is a little off topic but not to far. They did this experiment where I work.

From my point of view I see covid loosing much of its fear causing and it is just turning into another sickness.
