I have been looking. Seems they have stuff 10 times more powerful than ours. Or so they (Russia) say?
Problem is, as they fire one the little fellas from U.S. and big ones from them start flying.
Mass extinction for all...... Makes no diff whose stuff is bigger.
Would not surprise me if it may be risky to fire any of them. In more ways than one!

There is divided opinion in the posts here about Nukes.
Some think the US did a good thing dropping two atom bombs and others think it was terrible.
I am in the shouldn't have done it camp.
Yes, if Nukes start flying today the world is just about gone, the people on it anyway.
This is my take.
We should help Ukraine against Russia with boots on the ground and we should take our chance that Putin is bluffing. He didn't fire any because of Crimea, Georgia, Afghanistan.
Russia loves to make threats and then do as it likes knowing that everyone is scared of them. Bear in mind that some politicians are going on TV and saying outright "we won't enforce a no fly zone in Ukraine" and we won't get involved in fighting in Ukraine". Does anyone think for a second that Putin is not watching with a smile on his face because of how his threats once again have frightened everyone into letting him continue to annihilate another country with impunity?
There was a bully in school that was just like that until one day the little kid got fed up and gave him a bloody nose, even if he risked being beaten stupid. After that the bully made threats everyday, but didn't do anything else because regardless of how big and strong he was, he didn't like being hurt. I know this to be true because I was the little kid.
Putin is well aware that if he fires nukes, a lot of countries can fire them back, including Britain and the world as said would be gone. I also think he knows that it would be pointless, the idea is to win whatever conflict they are in and using nukes won't achieve that, in fact it would be the exact opposite.
If he's not bluffing, and I think he is - the war would be over but I for one will head for the nearest target as fast as I can before it gets hit, there are two main ways to die of a Nuclear detonation and I vote for the the fireball please.
Remember that for those left to die of radiation sickness, over half will be totally blind from looking at the thing.Last edited by STF; 03-14-2022 at 11:19 AM.

Thanked: 3226The dropping of the two atomic bombs by the US in WWII is irrelevant in today's context in what is happening in Ukraine. It's only usefulness is to show the consequences of such an action on targeted people. Even that is out of date as today's nukes are many times more powerful.
There were no boots on the ground in Crimea, Georgia or Afghanistan while Russia was directly involved there. Again a different situation than today in the Ukraine if boots on the ground were introduced into that war.
Personally, I would not want to tempt fate by calling Putin's bluff at this point by getting directly involved in Ukraine. Seems the rest of the world would rather not either.

Thanked: 3226There has been talk of why Russia has not so far used Precision Guided Munitions but that question is over with more than 30 cruise missiles hitting a Ukrainian military base close to the border with Poland. The Russians have them and they work. Makes the question of whether the Russian nukes work redundant also. They have them and will use them if they see fit.

Thanked: 49The thing with nukes is even if they blow up in their silos which is extremely unlikely. How many nukes go off before we have a mass extinction event? Like 2 guys with hand grenades in a closet. Both pins are removed. Doesn't matter which goes off first. And even if you "win" you lose as everyone is dead.

I figured the Russians to love their children too. What sort of mindset would cause someone to use a broad sword to slay their enemies and themselves at once. Religious extremism and martyrdom come to mind. Japanese suicide bombers too.
Can't see it happening. Chain of command sabotage might be the salvation. We can hope so in any case.
I can bet heavily that from history, they won't stop with Ukraine. Might just call the bluff now and join in..

I agree Tom. I can't see Vlad and the oligarchs, living lifestyles we can't imagine, suddenly pulling the trigger and giving it all up. Just see the yachts these people have, 500, 600 mil.
