I've had probably 75+ jobs in my life, trying to find where I fit in.

    Big surprise right?

I've done most every trade in construction from operating heavy equipment doing site work all the way to sheet metal roofing foreman.

I actually climbed each of the "turkey tails" in the picture I attached because they had pre-ordered the radius trim (Ry-bond) but made the
building too small and we had to screw 6 strips of 5/8 plywood 4' wide all the way across the top.

The safety man threatened to kick me off the job for swinging from my climbing rope off the top one. "But I was wearing my harness and hard hat."

I've given up on the construction thing and moved into private security.

To use the words of our local operations manager,
" We work in the "hood hood"".

There is no rent control in FL so even though some of these apartments are SUPER NASTY, they still cost around $800-950 for a 1300sq. ft.
So you end up with really pissed off people because they pay lots of money but the A/C hasn't worked in 5 months. (which is why they are outside after curfew)

Most of the places have a high crime/drug rate
(I would estimate that 1 of 20 apartments is a dealer)
with lots of the violence directed at illegals due to the fact that they carry cash.
(plus there is a whole swarm guys so drunk they look like pinballs bouncing off of everything in the parking lots when the bars close so it is REALLY easy pickings)

Most of our posts have two guards and we are all armed and wearing vests.

Someone threatens to kill me at least 3 times a week but as of yet none have succeeded.

I had a friend stop at a post the other night
(he wasn't even real keen on coming into the neighborhood to be honest)
    to bullshit.

Some Jamaican evictee ( I helped get evicted) had some problems with me came and was screaming that he was going to kill me (really big dude) and that he had things which would go through my vest and in Miami he would have shot me earlier with the cops right there and blah blah blah....

He walks with a cane (gunshot to the leg) and was waving it around, so I am perfectly fine drawing my weapon and holding it at the ready, which I did.
"Put your cane down sir" god I'm a dick

He did so I reholstered my pistol and took out my pepper spray. (and my 6D Maglite)

Well, eventually he got the idea that I wasn't going to be intimidated and
blurted out some kind of Voodo crap and drove off (there were actually 4 of them).

My friend (who didn't want to come to this neighborhood to begin with) pulls out a cig and tries to light it but his hand was shaking too bad.

It never occurred to me how much an irate individual screaming that he was going to kill you can unnerve some people.

For me it was just " Same shit, different post."

    Red face You do WHAT???

I used to pound nails and make things out of wood (carpenter). I've been graduated to using the gentle art of persuasion, the shuffling of papers, and the craft of preventing a chair from floating (shop supervisor). The nails have proved to be much easier to deal with.

Er... I'm currently the assistant manager at a local movie theatre with 5 screens. Woo. I do anything from sweeping the theatres, running the projectors, and dealing with occasional pain that feels he's the reason the theatre even exists.

    It pays for college.
