Thanked: 603How I Spent My Summer Vacation
I'm an unemployed Linux/Unix Systems Administrator.
I left the US Army in June 76, after spending six years as a combat infantryman (mostly 81mm and 4.2" mortars). Next, I went to vo-tech school and took a two-year program of study in Electronics Technology, then worked in defense satellite R&D... took me two years to realize that I had absolutely no interest in electronics, so I decided to emigrate to Israel. Sometimes "evolution", sometimes "revolution". This move was the latter.
Spent 25 years in Israel; worked six interesting ones as a technical writer, then had the opportunity to move into Sun systems administration in 1988, and jumped at it. I worked there, spent a few years during that time working in Silicon Valley, but the best were the six years I spent at Tel-Aviv University's computation center. Also managed to impregnate my wife and help raise two daughters -- both of whom served in the Israeli Defense Forces, as did I (105mm towed howitzers).
Moved back to the USA at the end of June 2004, and discovered that HR departments don't give a hoot about 18 years experience -- no college degree gets my resume tossed or moved into the onscreen Trash can.
So, I spend about 4-5 hours each day working to keep-up with new developments in (mainly) Linux, row a half-marathon each afternoon at the gym (see http://www.concept2.com for information about indoor rowing machines), visit with friends, and now I'm "getting my feet wet" in the world of "wet shaving". No, I'm not a Hobbit.Last edited by JBHoren; 12-01-2006 at 06:30 AM.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Thanked: 0First post here, I think? Ive been lurking for awhile. I'm 22 and at the moment I'm unemployed and in college. I like to think of myself as a professional beer drinker, with a concentration in beer pong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_pong
On a more serious note I will be graduating next December with a BS in Graphic Communication Management and a Minor in Business Administraion. Soooo basically I will work for a commercial print company and within a few years I'll be somewhere in management.
I dont have a straight yet, just a couple DE's, but luckily it's Xmas soon. I will be picking up both Lynns' & Bills' DVD. Hopefully a straight soon as well.

I'm a consulting Civil Engineer and a partner in a Civil Engineering/Surveying firm in small town North Idaho. I've been at it about 28 years, now, and I still love living in the northwest - it truly is God's country.

I have two businesses. The first and what I have been doing for the last 12 years is Promotional Products. A distributor is the proper term and my company sells any number of items to businesses with their logo on them. From hats, jackets ,t-shirts, coffee mugs, key chain etc. If you can put a logo on it I sell it.
My second business is still in start up but one that gives me a chance to work with my passion. Harley-Davidsons! I import H-D's into Canada and sell them. Mostly Police model Road King's and Deckers (FLH's) with the Bat Wing's. I buy them from leasing companies that lease them to Police and Sherrif dept's all over the southern United States. I can sell them in the States if anyone was intersted. I can just ship from the warehouse in Florida.

Lynn,
Yea, I did read in your profile that your "other" hobby was Harley's. It seems that every hobby I get ends up costing my $$$$$, Chrome for the darn bikes now I am constantly on the look out for razors. Oh well I have never seen a Brinks truck following a hearse. The two photo's I have posted (Avatar and profile) are both police models. I'll bet you have never seen one like those before. My guys do a very nice conversion, unless you know what you are looking for you wouldn't be able to tell.
As for the jackets Josh is working on I did contact him when he expressed his displeasure with the embroidery disk. I have come up with a solution to have it done properly and am waiting for Josh to give me direction.
