Thread: Ammo Shortage

This seems to be an excellent argument that everyone have a concealed carry permit (and a reasonably large caliber weapon at all times). Since "shall issue" was enacted; carry permits have, very substantially, statistically reduced crime in my community. Citizens who do carry stop crimes here all the time, it's in the news almost daily. Car-jacking used to be extremely popular here. Now it is drastically reduced (almost unheard of). It's a sad thing to realize that police virtually always arrive after the crime is committed; or less often, still in progress. The targeted victims, hopefully armed, are always there when it starts. Armed citizens stop far more crime than they commit.
e.g.
Not too long ago a knife wielding nut-case was shot dead in a fast food restaurant by one such citizen. Only the armed robber was injured. No innocents were harmed.

Thanked: 586The argument is not limited to kids with guns. I listed several adults, like Charles Whitman, Colin Ferguson, etc. who owned legal guns and went crazy. Yawn...nevermind. You gun guys, do me a favor. If you decide to go on a rampage, kill me first.

I have owned guns (Handguns, Rifles and Shotguns) for over thirty five years, closer to forty. I have yet to go on a rampage, go insane, go Postal, or anything of that nature. Thanks for talking down to me, it really inspires respect for you.

true. but crazy folks were killing long before guns came along. the way I see it, it ain't the guns that are the problem, it's the crazy folks.
a gun is a force multiplier. I'm a big guy. odds are, if a mugger came at me with his fists, I'd do alright for myself. hell, I might even have a chance if he has a knife... I'd like to think all those years of karate classes might have done some good. so, in all fairness, I might not NEED a gun to protect myself.
my wife is 4'11" and struggles to lift anything heavier than a case of beer. what are her odds in a fist fight? she doesn't have to be big or strong to carry a gun and know how to use it well. with a weapon, she actually has a chance. as they say, "God made men, but Sam Colt made 'em equal."
there was an interesting article a few months back in a local paper comparing police response times. turns out in the city I just moved from, (and this definitely played a role in deciding to move) Dominoes Pizza actually responded to calls quicker than the police. makes you think. I've decided that until the local po-po can routinely beat the pizza guy, I'll carry a gun.

Thanked: 402I've been trained shooting when I was young.
And now I'm so glad I don't even have a catapult.
Sometimes fuse is getting too short.
I really wonder that there is not a lot more happening with firearms in the US
but I also wonder if they are really such a benefit to have.
Personally I guess not.

Thanked: 16Sadly I do not currently have time to read this thread in it's entirety so I apologize if this has already been stated....
Obama has been the best thing for the Gun Industry in years.
When little old ladies come in buying 5,000 rounds clamoring to purchase them off the truck as the police are forced to provide escort between the truck and gun shop you know something is up....
I hear first hand accounts of this ammunition shortage such as the above accounts from Florida that being said there is no ammunition shortage I have seen from less progun states like Mass where I currently reside. (Not that I didn't already have an ammo can full it's just cheaper and easier than heading to the store every Saturday I want to head to the range)

Olivia
On two (2) occasions, having a gun ON me, saved my arse. 'Nuff said.
