Lol. I don't actually live in fear of the zombie apocalypse, though Max Brooks has said in interviews that he actually does have a borderline phobia. That's what makes his books so good. He thinks of everything.
Although what's interesting to note is that zombies spread across numerous cultures, and some cultures even revere them as gods.
One such culturally significant zombie of note was a Jew around the time of the Roman empire. While documentation seems to suggest he did not display many of the characteristics of your traditional zombie, he was nevertheless undead. This has lead to an almost fanatical devotion among the more superstitious, and has sparked numerous wars.
The first sign of the apocalypse in the doctrine of those devoted is "the dead shall walk the earth". Whether this is meant to be taken literally or not remains to be seen.
EDIT: I hope I don't enrage anyone particularly sensitive. I mean no disrespect.

Has anyone read "Breathers?" Just finished it a few nights ago. It's a fun take on Zombies. There's a love story, soem moral issues, an altogether enjoyable, if a tad predictable at times, fun book. It was good for a day of jury duty, sitting in the jury pool room. Some time I'll post the e-mails I sent to my wife that day as it unfolded.
I have to admit sitting in that room turned me into a bad, bad man for the day. I was intolerant, a little bit racist, definitely culturally insensitive, and one hell of an intellectual elitist. But I'm feeling much better now.
Two of my favorite books! I love the scenarios in WWZ. Some of them show an imagination/paranois that ran just a BIT too wild to be healthy! I love it! It has made me reconsider my rifle for SHTF scenarios!

Thanked: 235Max Brooks was a great help to me. For many months I had had a reoccuring night mare about being attacked by zombies. Now when I have that night mare I know how to deal with the hords of walking dead.

It's a good book if you like zombies. It's not really a traditional book, but is written as a collection of interviews from survivors of World War Z.
It starts with the events leading up to "The Great Panic", the war, and the aftermath.
Interesting read with a crazy amount of detail. I now feel qualified to give lectures on all aspects of zombies.

Lol, qualified. That's great. I just got on my local library's site and found out they apparently have digital copies of the book. I have to wait in line for it (doesn't that negate having a digital copy?), but it'll be cool to have an audio book.

I'm not sure how well it would work as an audio book, as it's supposed to be interviews with several different people.
I suppose as long as they use different voices and don't try to use a single narrator it would be fine.
I may stick my copy right next to the guide in my bug out bag.....just in case.
