Maybe not the most effective tool in the long run, but a battle tank would be fun while it lasted.

Can you imagine tearing ass down a crowded zombie street in your 70 ton tank? I don't know if plowing zombies would ever get old, but if it did, at least you have the cannon and machine guns.

Kuckris look great and all, but in order to decapitate you need to come within arm length of the zombie. So if you do not take the head off with the first cut, he grabs you. Then he will rip off an arm or a leg and bludgeon you to death with it.

My preferred option would be to use a katana. Preferably the longer battle style odachi. It would allow me to hack into the lumbering zombies from a safe distance. The cutting power and blade quality would let me hack it to pieces because zombies don't wear armor. And it would be nice to make good use of the stuff I learn in the dojo. Not to mention that katana are uber cool
This is an informed and well thought out addition to the discussion.

Since vintage katanas recieved a test tameshigiri, by seeing how many cadavers they could cut through in a single blow, I think that is of particular merit in these considerations.

I also came upon this nugget of information, that would suggest a proper arsenal when dealing with zombies as well:

"However, most samurai did not use their sword as a primary weapon; they used a bow first, a spear next, and only then the sword. Drawing the sword was like letting the soul blaze free when down to the last straw. To have fought until nothing but a surrender is possible was described as Ken ore, ya mo tsuki, (lit. "with swords broken and without an arrow") used as a proverb. "

So, not just a katana, but a bow and a spear should also be kept at hand.

This also provide proper visualization for shaving, as you should focus on each whisker as it it were a tatami target to cleave through cleanly in a single stroke....

I have one question. When the zombie apocalyps begins if any of the members here become infected who get their collection of razors? Should we devide them up equally or is it first in best shaved?

That just means you need a bigger Khukuri....they have them up to 22 inches you know.

Even with 22 inches, the tip needs to extend beyond the neck for a decapitating blow, which places you well within arms length of the zombie.

How about hitting them hard with a major, major leaflet campaign?

PETA will be campaigning for zombie rights. Zombies aren't bad, they're misunderstood. They're people too!

Joining PETA and using them as a human shield would be a good idea.

There is no fighting them, there is only (hopefully) managing to clear a path out of the cities.

It isn't that they're strong or fast...it's sheer numbers even within days.

I would highly recommend a copy of Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide as someone else mentioned. Also check out his other book, World War Z.

As humorous as the Guide is, World War Z is its dark flipside. This guy has thought of scenarios that no reasonable human being has a right to.

I used to be nonchalant about it too, like I could just grab some beers and a couple of guns and swords.

After reading World War Z, I may only need 1 bullet when the zombies come.
