Thanked: 20I think that older high school buildings are a better option than malls. They are flat roofed, making good lookout points, are usually brick, and often have at least some defensive depth. So you get a backhoe, dig a zombie moat (a deep trench). you can also have everyone lock themselves in separate rooms so that if they turn over night, you can deal with them in the morning.
My plan is to head to an area of low population, and be self sufficient, I'm not so worried about the zombies, but the people who don't turn, but are heavily armed, ie. the tank company from reign of fire.
as for weapons, khuck or similar, and a decent .22lr, more than enough do disrupt CNS with a headshot, and ammo is way easiser to carry than 5.56x45
and of course shaving straight will be the only way in the apocalypse.

A good defensible place is somewhere easily defended by a small group, with fallback points as well as ways to get out. I'm thinking steel reinforced concrete. top of a hill, hard for zombies to walk up.
IMO you're better off with a smaller group that can handle themselves. the problem is finding a honemeister that is also competent with firearms.there will be plenty of scantily clad dames in distress that need rescuing should yours get bitten and have to get left behind. the worst thing is being by yourself, then you have nobody to watch your back.
Malls are horrible places, windows everywhere. some old schools are good, but the problem with really big places is they are hard to cover well. You need to think old firehouse, old police substation, things like that. there are some old brick warehouses downtown here, some of those might not be bad. and with remote places remember the more remote the longer the journey for supplies. you can only reasonably take so much with you.
you have to balance it all, a place defensible by a portion of your group while some are away getting supplies. the place I have picked out I think is very good, although supply runs are long.

One option would be to be near GW when the zombies come. Because whatever it takes to get rid of them, I am fairly confident that he has the right gear
Kuckris look great and all, but in order to decapitate you need to come within arm length of the zombie. So if you do not take the head off with the first cut, he grabs you. Then he will rip off an arm or a leg and bludgeon you to death with it.
My preferred option would be to use a katana. Preferably the longer battle style odachi. It would allow me to hack into the lumbering zombies from a safe distance. The cutting power and blade quality would let me hack it to pieces because zombies don't wear armor. And it would be nice to make good use of the stuff I learn in the dojo. Not to mention that katana are uber cool![]()
