Actually, she was on a ferry to Martha's Vineyard last summer and we were whispering to each other that she was the chick who was attacked by the shark but none of us could remember her name so we didn't have the nerve to ask her. Then she walked over and petted Basil. We kept the conversation about the dog. It wasn't until just now watching this video that I am sure it was her. Thanks!

I saw another vid where she was recounting paddling back to shore right after losing the arm and was warning the other surfers so that they could stay safe. Big bite mark out of the board and all.

Bear. I would need the cuddly cuteness to comfort me as he shreds my flesh. Being eaten can be traumatic, I'm told.

Cuddly cuteness kinda smells and is totaly unconditioned, LOL
(We had collar bear furs once and they left a lot of comfort to be desired)

I'd rather face the bear. I could at least delude myself I had a chance.
wow thanks ICE, now I'll never go in the ocean again.

Any time. I've bastardized an old Persian saying. Mine goes, "What doesn't kill you is just another story."

Without any specifics mentioned, i'd have to say bear. The idea of drowning while dying makes it worse. And in my mind, the bear would be more of an efficient killer, not sure how that holds out in real life.

well at least you could take a deep breath with a shark

    and bears stink
no way I want a chunk of my arm stuck in it's teeth stinkin up the woods
plus they cover stuff up and coma back for it

at least in the ocean you would be mostly gone fairly quickly
rather that than rot in the woods

to quote an old indian saying

    "the crow sees"
    "the deer hears"
    "the bear smells"

(plus I very rarely go in the ocean (tastes bad) and I figure shark is less likely than bear so better to tempt fate with the lower probability)

    Shark.

If it would be bear I would be out working (I think the grizzlies are truly n 1 work hazard among my Canadian & U.S. peers doing their field work - we have only brown bears in this side of the big pond)

If it would be a shark I would be in my vacation (I like to go snorkeling and free diving)

Thus if I had to go a bit prematurely I'd rather go while having fun

    Cheers,

    T
