If our prison system is set up to conform a criminal, to our laws, then no, no one should be put on death row. They should all have a chance to prove themselves worthwhile, productive citizens.
If our prison system is set up to, deter crime, deny a criminal, liberties, rights, and life, then by all means let them hang.
Our prisons have become a, horrible, hybrid of these two and does not work.

It is an incredibly sad story. And just as complicated,. it seems, with facts still coming out. If it was just a case of this abduction, I'm not sure the death penalty would be clear cut, even with those who are strong proponents. The two daughters and Jaycee all formed very close bonds it seemed with Garrido. The latter can be explained as Stockholm syndrome perhaps, but those two young girls appear to be close to their father, and killing him would only do further harm to those two girls.
However, Garrido seems to be under suspicion for many deaths in the area now, and for those who support the death penalty this might be seen as a clear case.
I find myself wondering what life was like for those girls -- they weren't locked in a cell like Kampusch and today's papers show them attending a friend's birthday party. Just regular teenage girls? And now they find out the awful truth and lose their father.
There's no sorting this one out.

well it's good to see we can argue without starting flame wars gentlemen =)
back to topic, i believe that death row is as much an easy way for us as it is for them. its a lot easier to just kill them, rather than trying to either treat them, or intern them indefinitely. for them, as someone else mentioned, it's easier to die than spend 60+ years in prison. especially as a paedophile, or suchlike, where many of them would rather die anyway. there was a serial killer in America, i don't remember his name, perhaps someone else does, who used to strangle women to death. he was sentenced to death when he was caught, and he requested that he would be hanged. They did,. seems like that was what he wanted.

Thanked: 586As much as I oppose capitol punishment, it seems that if there is to be a death penalty, they should be quick about it. Perhaps give judges guns, "Guilty as charged." BANG!, "Bailiff, mop the floor."
