Thanked: 431Are we gonna address what 'MARK' has asked about with this thread and quit getting off topic? He asked specifically about groups or any group with the stated specific intent to bring 'Christianity' (not religion or any religious system, but specifically Christianity) to it's ultimate demise, not wether or not there is religious persecution.
Persecution and/or oppression and/or repression there definitely has been historically and even currently, especially under socialistic or communistic forms of government, but what about the specific question of this thread?

It's difficult to prove a negative, but while there are militant atheists who, I'm sure, would like to persuade everyone to their view, I'm not aware of any secular/atheist group that has the aim of destroying Christianity.

Thanked: 586Mark,
Of course there are organized attempts to eliminate Christianity. There always have been but why would you care? More specifically, why are you apparently only concerned with organizations that seek to eliminate (or at least discredit) that with which you have involved yourself and not those counterparts that affect people who have a belief system different than yours? You have only to attend briefly and in the most cursory of manner to the teachings of many churches to get hip to thier hatred of other, differing teachings and churches. Doesn't it appear starkly evident that certain Jewish sects would gladly eliminate the world of Islam and Christianity or certain Islamic organizations that are currenly (and quite literally) dieing to rid the world of those pesky Jews and Christians? You certainly have heard of fire and brimstone Christian zealots that promise eternal damnation to all who disagree. In my estimation it is all the same, hatred in the name of some god. I could be way off base here but I am guessing you are okay with those groups that happen to support whatever it is you believe and if others beliefs were attacked you'd be okay with that too.

Thanked: 13249Rod is right I did not address "TheMark"'s question directly...
So my answer is there are none that I am aware of, even the waki-doodle Atheists that profess this are against all religion not just Christianity...
You might also wonder why I called some of my fellow Atheists waki-doodle???? Because if they Proselytize for their beliefs, they are essentially making themselves into a religion IMHO... I honestly have no problem with any religion unless they expect me to believe or join...
Edit : That was not quite true, I also have a problem with any religion spewing any type of hate speach...Last edited by gssixgun; 12-30-2009 at 03:49 PM.

I would also love to hear it Glen!
But if I understand the position of many (not neccesarily Glen's)...there IS a problem with hate speech, and it is reprehensible, but to OUTLAW it or use it to increase the severity of a crime is to chip away at the First Amendment.
Wow...that's pretty damned off topic...my apologies.

The way that I understand it Christianity was supposed to be a program of attraction more than promotion. Although there seems to be more of the latter than the former.... Jesus is reputed to have said,"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Paul the Apostle said."Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." If these things were truly evident in individual Christians what organization could bring it down? Maybe the decline in Christianity is an inside job.
IOW, to the casual observer the alleged transformation is as overdue as the purported apocalypse which Jesus and his Apostles expected within their lifetime.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 13249I actually would rather not define it... I think no matter how I try I will somehow offend someone...
Lets just say that when Religions say "Hate the Sin, not the Sinner" they should mean it...
As to the 1st amendment, that is the most abused amendment we have, I feel sorry for that amendmentI think of it as a huge pendulum and every time anyone swings it too far in one direction it swings right back the other way just as hard...
Example: Christian group says that TV is promoting a Gay lifestyle and that should be stopped.. Gay rights group answers back with "Hate Speech" against Gays from the pulpit should be made illegal... Those of us with a grain of common sense shake our head as the 1st amendment is slapped silly from both sides...
