There were a couple of atheists named Hitler and Stalin who had a pro active agenda against religion be it organized or private.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 431Well, Hitler was a catholic and was never denounced by the Catholic Church as far as I know and it seems that I remember something about him signing a concordat with them when in power before he got on his totally insane path.

I defy you to support that ridiculous statement.
An atheist is one who takes a position against theism. I have no holy scripture or dogma. I have no church, service or ritual, no prayers or spiritual penance. Nothing like that.
You are quite right. Goddesses, gods, fairies, unicorns and dragons cannot be disproven. They however cannot be proven either and that is entirely the point. I see no reason to believe in such things. That's not the same thing as saying, "I know your god doesn't exist", unless I'm speaking in the personal colloquial sense of knowing and then it makes every bit as much sense as when the theist says, "I know my god exists". Taking the position that there are no gods because none can be proven isn't the same thing as believing there are certainly no gods, but even if I do adopt such a belief I'm still not part of any religion. I stand against theism. a-theism. Quit deluding yourself.

It must be nice to be sure whether on one side or the other .... like Larry Slade, a character in O'neill's The Iceman Cometh, I have the curse of being able to see both sides of the issue.
