Just got home from the local (and only) island pub after watching England - USA with my lady and some neighbors. Have to say that i was surprised about England as i thought it should have been a sure win. They missed the sure goal at the 8th minute of the second half. Even my long gone grandmother could have scored with a place like that.
Still, my heart beats for Netherlands and Germany.

    You see? You see?!

England fans, forever destined for heartbreak and disappointment. Going into this competition, the main criticism was "we don't have a reliable goalie".

Oh boy, understatement of the year!

    I'm lurking from now on.

Well he just gained a bunch of support from America.

It was a good game and fitting that it ended in a draw. Now each country has to take care of business in the next two games and I'm hoping that they both advance.

Howard is supposed to find out today if he cracked any ribs. He did get some help in that some of Englands best shots were directed right toward him, but it's still darn impressive that he kept playing despite the injury.

I don't like the world cup. I'm not a big soccer/football fan. But the reason I don't like the world cup is because it turns half of my students into zombies. In their misguided sence of what is important and what is not important they think watching soccer/football is more important than getting an education.

Ahh but sports are educational! Consider this a great opportunity to teach students about other cultures, national pride, and sportsmanship.

I quite enjoyed the England - USA match. Fair result and like, commiecat said, still all to play for for both teams. Just gave up on Australia - Germany after Cahill was sent off for nothing very much, just as Australia looked like they may possibly have made a match of it. Good goals from Germany in the first half though.

That was a rather decent match.

I love the World Cup. It is probably the only sporting event/s I actively watch. I started watching in maybe 1990 and Italy has always been my favorite. Roberto Baggio was my favorite player during his time.

This year so far has been alright- nothing too impressive so far. Germany looked good and solid today, but maybe only because Australia looked so sloppy. USA and England both looked decent and had some good chances. I would have hoped France would have looked better, but was kind of disappointed. It would be nice to see Ivory Coast upset Portugal in their first games.
