Thread: Whats your opinion on automatic weapons?

Oh I know it's not about hunting, that's kind of what I disagree with, may be biased being a Brit lol

Coming to this thread late I can only make an observation. It speaks volumes that when so many are slaughtered, some people can still get hung up on the technical difference between full and semi-auto firearms.
I suppose that in the US, with so many firearms in circulation and the polarisation of society, you guys are probably going to have to get more used to random public executions by mental cases. At least it wasn't a school this time.
A shooter my entire life, I really don't subscribe to the argument that everyone should need to carry guns in order to defend themselves. Go down that route and you really will see some horror. It'll be just like the violent movies that Hollywood loves to pump out, only there will be more realism.

This is a fallacy that the gun control people like to tout and it just isn't true. Having more law abiding people carrying guns has NOT resulted in more shootouts. The opposite is true. The higher incidence of CCW people has made the criminals more afraid to pull out a gun.

I lobbied hard for the CCW law here in Texas and got my license immediately when it went into effect.

I laughed at the Ann Richards reelection people when they called my house.

I have made a personal rule to "Not leave home without it". I have forgotten it on occasion and turned around and gone back home to get it even if it made me late. Call me paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

I have been lucky enough for the last 15 years to work for employers that don't mind if I carry at work. I thank God that I have never had to pull it. I'm no John Wayne, but the first rule of a gun fight is to have a gun.

To answer the original question posed on this thread I'd have to say this: in keeping with the spirit of the original intent that lead the founding father's to incorporate the 2nd ammendment it seems that automatic weapons should be readily available and affordable to each and every citizen. As a matter of opinion, it seems that ANY weapon that our authorities, er, public servants are allowed to have should be made available to every citizen. If we are to remain anything but subjects, we should never let those we appoint over us to be able to outgun us as a whole. Call me crazy.....

This touches on the aspect I find most interesting. So... Stinger missiles, bazookas, and tactical nuclear weapons for all? I might push for one of those "cooling off" waiting periods on the nukes, myself.
