In the late 60's, there were two girls putting out in my class that had 70 or so kids in it. Nowadays there are probably only two girls in a class that aren't putting out and class sizes are probably 5 times what they were when I was in school.

For our friends in the UK that think that more laws and less guns will make a safer society, I would ask them to investigate Mexico, Central, and S America and their VERY restrictive gun and dope laws. Those laws appear to be working very well I'd say..... NOT!

Last numbers I heard for the running death toll in the border dope war is pretty close to what the US had killed in over 15 years of the SE Asia war games.

I have a number of good friends of Mexican and Salvadoran ancestry that have legally immigrated to the states. I also have "gringo" friends that own property in in and around San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. My American friends will NOT drive down there any more. My Mexican friends just don't go back to visit because it is too damn dangerous.

I live in N TX and the cartels do reach up here. So far the cartel violence in this area has been pretty much directed at each other.

As for the BS about the guns coming from the US, that is a load of crap for the most part (except for what our present regime provided in their FAST AND FURIOUS debacle). I say that because the full auto stuff those guys are using is bought on the underground market or from international arms suppliers willing to sell to anyone with the $$. Those dopers have the $$ to buy about anything their hearts desire and there is some HEAVY stuff running around down there (most of it from the Communist bloc or stolen/purchased from their own armies) that is simply NOT available through normal purchase here in the states.

Glen, you either want facts and figures or you don't. Whenever I have showed you, using facts and figures, that harsher gun control laws reduce firearms crimes you haven't bought it. When I told you that guncrime would increase immediately after any bans for obvious reasons that was then ignored. The FACTS are that in other first world countries with harsher gun laws than the USA there are lower gun crime rates, that is a FACT. If you use your logic that would say that if you apply those rules to the USA which is also a first world country the same would most likely occur.

Have you actually heard people talking about how cheaply drugs are available now? This website produced by the US Govt shows how supplies are lower than they have ever been,

    https://www.ncjrs.gov/ondcppubs/publ...ndcs/iv-g.html

Showing that changing laws and enforcing them DOES WORK to reduce availability!

Lets go back to how the UK gun crime stats were misinterpreted by many here. The ban came into place, in 1998 the crime rate involving guns was 0.000008. In 2007 the crime rate was 0.000000139, a lower crime rate by a factor of 10. We reduced gun crime by a factor of 10 over 10 years. You can work this out by taking into account the UK population.

the crime rate for the USA in 2010 was 0.0000318, enough said.

I think "Quality" depends on your meaning? Most powdered drugs now have a higher percentage of active ingrediant, but also have a greater percentage of harmful chemicals in them. Marajuana has a higher THC content, however this is traded off with greater psychological damage, I wouldn't consider this higher quality.

Please allow this post to show you how restricting access to guns by removing them from sale reduces gun crime by a factor of 10.

To counter your point, "I hear people talking about how easy it is to buy drugs and how cheap they are now" ... which "proves my point" Wow

BTW in comparison drugs have actually gone up in quality and down in price over the last 30 years, one of the few commercial products to do so

In the late 60s we had HS classes half that size and at least two were putting out. Glad the little HS I went to was here. Anyhow just trying to lighten a topic that is already a little to serious.

No corporal punishment. No prayer in school. Education geared to pass the state tests instead of learning the 3 R's. No pledge of allegiance. Touchy feely course curriculum. Passing students that still can't read just to get rid of them. Passing kids on compassionate grounds instead achievement.

In short, the liberals are in control.

Liberals want better education with less testing. It is liberals that tru to allow education to be that rather than jumping through hoops.this is a quote from a liberal political party website "testing should be reduced to a necessary minimum in order to remove unnecessary pressure on pupils and staff and to reduce the current waste of time and resources on such testing; ". I agree with corperal punishment though, prayer should be reinstated not to enforce religion but to enforce compliance with the rules. Kids don't pledge allegiance to anymore? They do in WA state.
