Tax freedom day for US citizens was 17 April 2012 and for Canadian citizens it was 11 June 2012. There is a difference in taxes paid but that does not take into account that the bulk of health care coverage in Canada is part of the overall tax burden. In the US if you added the cost of private health for an average family for one year there might not be much of a difference. The only real difference is that in one system everyone is covered and in the other not everyone. I am with Bruno on this one.
