To the OP, if you want a safe solution, that will not harm the innocent dogs, but will alleviate the problem, please send me a PM. It sounds like you are in a neighborhood, and probably would get a 'discharging a firearm' charge, if not endangerment charges, if you shoot the dogs. My way, nobody will even know what you are doing, but the problem will stop.

Thanked: 15I know its kind of late to be throwing in my 2 cents but, seeing as how I am an proud Pit owner and my wife is a vet tech I figured I could weigh in. Dogs comming into your yard is never a good thing, and what signs of agression are they showing, you need to be careful and specific about this id you do end up resorting to violance because if you or your family could get to a safe haven IE: inside your house and u do end up shooting the dogs it could end badly for you in court. crushed peppers at the fence line is a great idea, also next time you need to take a leak go in a Solo cup or something of the sort and theng go pour it along the fince line (dogs establish domance by marking their territory so you should do the same) this should discourage digging. and if that fails and animal controle says you must capture the animals your self then buy sme wet dog food and lace it with benadril (alot of it) this should either make the dogs very drowsy or give them a good nap then you can secure them for the athorities, but I do believe if you tell the athorities that tehe animals are not yours and are agressive and you fear for your safty (if your animal controle is through your local police also tell them you have a fire arm and intend to use it you should get a quicker responce)
A married man should forget his mistakes. There is no use in two people remembernig the same thing.

Thanked: 101I have too had this problem with neighbor's "pit bull" type dogs. I have called AC on numerous occasions as well. The dogs have had my wife and 3 kids pinned up on the side porch before, they have staked claim to my front yard basically "patrolling" it, They have also acted aggressively towards the AC when I called them to the house. I have been poo-pooed by the AC officer and was told these dogs are not aggressive generally speaking. I told her that my kids are more important than the dogs and she agreed. I also told her I would defend myself and family and will soon introduce the dogs to "Mr. Remington"and she said no problem. Defending yourself is not against the law is what I was told.

Here is what I did:
I talked to my neighbor - told them it was an issue for me. Politely stated that perhaps their insurance would cover the costs of fixing the fence properly... "by the way, who insures you anyway? Are they any good?"
Hence, I found who insured my neighbor.
Waited till they did it again (the dogs) and then snapped a photo - called their insurer and warned them of the issue and that I had kids that played in my back yard etc. - emailed them the photo.
Never happened again! Insurers are not cool with the liability of dogs crossing fences and kids being given access to others yards. Moreover... insurance company's swing a big stick so to speak.
Just a thought - worked for me.David

I noticed a lot of people are recommending pepper spray. This isn't a bad choice, but personally for your situation I would just always bring out with me a can of wasp/hornet killer. It shoots a lot further, is way more accurate, and it backs up the story to the cops of "I just grabbed it cuz it was there, I was scared" story.
Sometimes you gotta pick not only what is effective but what makes sense to the law.

Just tie the dog down and shave it. You know you want to!
