    Plus eleventy bazillion.

Also, when's the last time this stunt was pulled in a police station or around armed soldiers (ft hood doesn't count, they weren't armed)??

This happens in gun free zones because the bad guy knows he has the upper hand.

I stated all the stats, across most of the text of the world in the last automatic rifle discussion. They were met with cynicism even though they mostly came from academic papers. People basically said "yeah but that's not America" or showed weak stats or statements to show the opposite.

I strongly disagree, ricochet fire, pressure, and do you really want to have THAT learning environment for your children?

Sorry. I'm still new here and wasn't aware of the previous thread.

I'm not sure, but I don't think automatic weapons have been used to commit a crime here in the states in the last few decades.
They were first restricted in 1934, then in 68, again in 86.

The cheapest full auto is usually over $10k.

They get to live no matter where they go, feeling safe that they are unlikely to get shot off there are no legal firearms.

First, my sympathies go to the community and for all those people affected.

Now to Glen's point about information, I believe several news outlets reported that the shooter's brother was actually the killer, and they provided his name, age, and picture to the public. The poor guy has to live with his brother committing this act, and on top of it all of his social media profiles are now rife with hatred toward him. On top of that, the living brother happened to like a video game (Mass Effect) and their social media sites were taking hits because of the misinformation. This is the sad state of our news affairs and it has nothing to do with the "liberal" or "conservative" media. It's about the media trying to be first on a story.

The hot topic is always gun control and never about how the criminal could have been helped before the crime, or, more importantly IMHO, how the media glorifies these events. Charlie Brooker had an interesting story on this, and skip to 1:40 if you just want to hear the interview with a forensic psychiatrist:

    Charlie Brooker's Newswipe 25/03/09 - YouTube

Nowadays I think it'd be hard to keep these things localized as suggested, but the rest I'm in agreement with. Everyone wants to blame gun control laws, or games, or music, or Hollywood, but there's rarely a discussion as to how the media's portrayal of these monsters plays a role in these events, or how we can improve the mental health of unstable or disgruntled people.
