Nowadays a full auto will set you back $10,000 or better depending on what it is. An M-14 or AR with a selector switch would probably be more than that. Woe be to anyone who possesses one and gets caught, let alone sell one, without a federal tax stamp. Here in FL any gun purchased at a show has to undergo the same background check as if it were in a brick and mortar store.

Hey that isn't what they are reporting on MSNBC, they said there are no background checks anywhere

Today's tragedy is almost beyond belief and truly saddening. And there are no words or controls that will make things like this go away. It is only natural for the world to have things like this happen. There will always be good/evil , night/day, my opinion/yours. It is natural . All you can do is be thankful it was not you or yours in this situation and wish the best for those involved.
Now, my Mother who has been watching this all day says, the media is back peddling and changing the story as they find out from 8th graders on facebook and twitter what happened. This is why I shot my TV 15 years ago. I took it out to an isolated place and emptied an AK 47 then an AR 15 into it. I finished it of with a shoot gun at close range making it unrecognizable. It's dead because it told half truths and slanted stories and made me the fool for listening. It pitted me against my fellow man and made me think he was against me and that i should fear him. It kept me from realizing that everyone wants the same thing basically. And instead of searching for the truth of the matter I found myself defending petty arguments that had nothing to do with the real cause of the problem. My friends I am hoping the Mayans and their calender are right. Not the hollywood/media doomsday version but the Mayan version. You see they believe something is going to happen and some of it may be bad for the earth and the people on it. But the main belief is that mankind is going to evolve. And after it does there will still be good and bad things but it will be better. My hope is that it just starts to get better. The direction this world is going in now is self destruct. The evidence for that is in events like today. No blame, it's just the way it is.

I set up and sold at gun shows for 10 years. I do have a clue. I never saw any of he stuff that you mentioned. I did see a lot of CLASS III stuff for sale. It wasn't cheap and it was handled appropriately.

I am also aware of "black market" full auto stuff out there and I'm sure if I set my mind to it, I could get my hands on one or more if I had the funds. There is a lot more to it than going out back and buying out of somebody's trunk. ANYBODY who tried that around here would be in jail faster than a cat can lick his rear end. Neither the promoters nor the dealers will put up with stuff like that at any of the shows around here. Maybe it's different in Kali. I have no idea what happens out on the left coast anymore, but I bet I can make a few phone calls and find out as I do have some old shipmates out there yet that I keep in touch with.

The fact remains that if you convert a semi to full auto you are violating a federal law that has been in effect since about 1934. A little thing called "The Kansas City Massacre" gave the FBI the policy of carrying firearms and brought Federal legislation regulating the sales and possession of full auto weapons, sawed off shotguns and the like. It didn't work in 1934 and it ain't worked too well since.

The problem seems to be in man. The first demonstration of brotherly love being Cain and Abel.

Don't trip over those facts there Bill, but the lower reciever is just part of the conversion..

Again why are you not doing something about it, I would report an illegal weapon or a weopen to the correct authorities with a quickness, if I even hear a full auto rip I call it in.. But then I follow the law

Hey Willie let's not forget in Kali the laws are much stricter then ID or TX too guess we need to hit those wild west coast Gunshows and score us some $90 conversion lowers

I wonder this, too. If you look at the whole landscape over the last 100 years, the availability of guns hasn't changed much. I really don't know what the answer is in all of this stuff, but I am disappointed in a society where it's seen as OK for not just one, but a bunch of kids (and most of them seem to have some serious issues that people were aware of ahead of time, maybe not murderer issues, but they were kids who are way out there) to do this kind of thing.

Is it the internet, where kids like this can read people who have had similar thoughts? Are they on behavior modification drugs? Are most of these kids the ones who would've been institutionalized 30 years ago? Everyone is mainstreamed now and anyone with any viewpoint can commiserate with like folks if they want now. I'm neither here nor there about any of this magazine limitation talk or any of that stuff, but I really would like to know why when the guns have always been around, why is this as frequent as it is all about the same time as the internet got popular and extreme widespread use of anti anxiety drugs, etc?

I also really would like to see less coverage, I know we'll never get that, but as awful as this is, I don't want to be pounded with thinking about it and all of the details surrounding it for the next two weeks. It was disgusting tonight to sit down and watch the news, I had to turn it off, it was on every single channel at 10:10 when I turned the TV on, as if the bulk of us didn't know about it already?
