Yes, but maybe less than a few months ago. There are also people who wait at Walmart for the trucks to come in and buy to resell at a profit. That might be the bigger problem. I did talk to a Cabelas salesman and he personally knows someone with 725000 rounds of 22lr, but they were hoarding long before the big shortage. Having that much is just crazy

At least now there is something to be found on the shelves. The prices are still up but if nothing else 'terrible' happens they will eventually come back to earth.

Well maybe a tad obsessive then!!!
If you were to shoot 500 rounds a day everyday and you had 725000 rounds, it would take you 4 years to use them up!! You would have probably gone through a few rifles as well

At one time, I had about 500,000 rounds of 22 ammo in my basement.

This all was spent in 2 years. My dad ran the last gallery in Coney Island. There were usually 7 guns on the counter, and another 7 in reserve, and enough spare parts to build 10 more. So lets say for the sake of "my memory is bad" that there were 30 rifles, all in use since at least 1960.... 35 years, at 250,000 a year = 8333 rounds, per rifle, per year or 291,666 rounds per rifle over its lifetime. Show me a commercial grade rifle made today that can withstand that!

    Wow!!
Do you remember the brand and model of those rifles? Was the ammo the type with out powder (or very little) made just for shooting galleries? That's really some serious round counts for those rifles and really says something about their quality!!

The ammo was specially manufactured for gallery use. Remington "Spatterless" 23 grain designed to disintegrate on impact so there was less chance of ricochet.
There were two styles of rifle. Remington "Speedmaster" for the semi auto (tube fed, 14 round capacity) and the Winchester 62A pump action. The pumps broke down more often than the semiauto, because people would wrench on the pump like they were in the movies racking a shotgun! I will post a picture when I get a chance to snap some.

I'll be on the look out for those, they had to be tough to take that kind of abuse

Ammo is starting to come back, I even bout 5 boxes of 100 22lr for 4.97 each at Pro Bass,. Bricks are still extinct as are a number of other popular calibers. Our Walmart does have 7.62x39 and now .223 in bulk. 1000 rd cases. There is hope yet for the rest of us.

Like Scarlett Ohara at the end of the first half of "Gone with The Wind" saying "I shall never go hungry again" as she uprooted a carrot and shook it before the face of God, I too will never do without 22 lr once I get my hands on some.
