At first I thought it was the study of animals that lived in trees, like monkeys.

I'm a Clinical Assistant Professor of Veterinary Radiology and Radiation Oncology at the veterinary teaching hospital of a major university. The "Linac" in my username was chosen because as a radiation oncologist I use a clinical Linear Accelerator (Linac) to administer radiation therapy to pets. As a radiologist, I use conventional radiographs, CT's, MRI's, nuclear medicine, ultrasound to diagnose illnesses in pets.

People often ask me if I'm an MD (which I am not) because they have a hard time grasping that there are specialists (internists, cardiologists, medical oncologists, dermatologists, to name a few) in veterinary medicine, just like in physician-based medicine.

I'm 26 and still haven't found what I want to do... right now I'm trying acting/voice overs/creative industry route. Got a computing degree and couldn't run far enough away from it I've been in a call centre, been a postman, cleaning toilets, barmen, leaflet distributor, bike mechanic, sales assistant, porter and the for one reason or another had to move on or quit the job to protect my soul (now I know why call centres windows don't open... so you can't jump out of them) actings too much fun but I've only been doing it for 6 months and I cant imagine doing anything else, fun stuff :-)

I wouldn't worry too much about finding what you want to do - sometimes what we want to do finds us. We just need to keep faith.

I mean, do you think I wanted to be a porn star mathematician all my life?? Hell no! If it weren't for my sensitive skin, excessive sweating, and bad inner-thigh chafing issues, I'd have been a pro-wrestler in a flash! But the career gods had other plans for me, as I am sure they have for you.

I hear that in Australia you don't even need a veterinary license (or any veterinary skills) to practice proctology on sheep. I think you guys call it "animal husbandry."

Yes, it is a bit like that old joke: "I'm not a gynecologist, but I'll take a look at it for you..." You can tell the animal husbanders over here - they are the guys who buy their gumboots one size too large...

Does this make you a dosimetrist?
