Thanks Rick for your kind offer... I'll catch up with you hopefully at the meetup.
Well, Stu has mentioned some dates that don't suit and Rick has mentioned some that do, so lets try to set a date for the weekend of the 19th/20th or the 26th/27th.
At least we're narrowing down the date a bit
Anyone else have any preferences re date of meetup? It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

Hi All, I've created a new thread with a poll for the date. Please vote when you have a chance. Multiple dates may be chosen.
Cheers,

Hi everyone, hope all is well...
The poll for the catchup date is closing tonight, looks like it will be Sunday 27th so far, based on poll results. If this doesn't suit anyone in particular, please advise and we can see if everyone is agreeable to another date.
Also, for something different this meetup, I'm proposing a couple of scientific experiments...
I have a couple of 7 day sets. I was thinking of the following tests if others are interested:
1) Have 7 honed by the same person - they take them home with them for a month or 2, but purely strop differently. ie. One with linen or similar and strop on leather, one strop on leather only, perhaps try different leathers, different material apart from linen etc, even different number of laps stropping etc. Im sure we could come up with 7 different post-honing tests.
2) Have one set honed from bevel setting to 8k the same, then using different finishers, and shaving with the same stropping routine whatever that may be, for shave tests over a month or 2. I will have a chosera and norton 8k from Geoff if he comes and still has it available to buy, and I know another few people have the same, so could be a good base for the test. I have a small escher to use as one finisher, but no others. I know some people have coticules, and perhaps some others have synthetics? Plus we could leave one at Norton 8k for interest. If AndrewMurray86 joins us, he has a lovely large escher (if I read his thread correctly) he can hopefully bring (and to make us jealous)
Anyone interested in volunteering for such an experiment. Im happy to loan a 7 day set or 2, but I haven't shaved enough to be able to judge results otherwise I would love the opportunity myself.
If nobody is interested, that's fine also, just haven't seen too many tests like this on the forum, so thought it may be interesting for all on SRP.
The 7 day sets I have available are CV Heljestrand, Mappin & webb, plus Thomas Turner (which is currently in transit back from UK after restoration but will be here before the meetup). Happy to loan any of the sets, as you all seem trustworthy (Luckily EdHewitt isn't coming, otherwise Id have them locked up in the safe)... [waiting for Ed's reply, Im sure it will only be an hour or so ] {ed, you know that last comment was just for fun, obviously I nor anyone else think you are untrustworthy lol}
On the day of the meetup, I will provide snacks and beverages, so just bring yourselves and your shaving gear. As for time, I'm thinking of an official start time of 1pm if that suits everyone, allow people to grab lunch beforehand and have the finish time not too late for those with a way to travel, but for anyone wanting to come early, say from 10am, I can happily put on a basic lunch, sandwiches, roast potatoes, salad, cheese platter and some fruit etc. But I'm vegetarian, can make some nice food, but for anyone that needs some meat in the belly, I can fire up the BBQ if you want to bring snags or steaks etc. It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

Ed, you have been a member for over 12 months now... for all the time you spend on the site, you'd have to be up there with the best in regards to knowledge? Happy 1 year anniversary from last month... Im at 6 months now. Feel my knowledge is good for 6 months but experience not so much, as I only shave 2-3 times a week.

OK gentlemen, the poll for the date has closed, so we're set for the 27th unless anyone has any last minute objections.

Us? Never !
You are right though, if i distilled all of the useful info i have put in i would guess at around 20-25%, however i have read quite a few threads and tried to take the info in.
What i really meant andrew is that i have a razor i like so i just keep using it every day. I am now trading that one with a member here for a strop as i now have a new razor i rather like (thanks phrank) and i have a custom on the way (well technically on the way to canada at the moment, but it will be heading my way when it is finished), and i realy dont need any more. I also have a back up that i never really use.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 983Sorry about this you blokes, but it seems I may have family duties to attend to. SWMBO has a busy set of weekends and it doesn't look like I'm going to make it now. There may still be hope, but I will have to wait and see.
