I did some camping yesterday and today. We also tried rabbit and squirrel hunting but the animals made themselves scarce. The steaks we ate were from the farm where we were camping. Also, I brought jerky made from a deer that was harvested feet from where my tent was pitched.

I went on an overnight campout with a buddy this week. Here is a shot of a venison backstrap on the grill.

At least there is no snow on the ground this time.

Camping in the snow can be fun. This campout involved a lot of ticks. There are tradeoffs.

Was talking with the GF last night about a camping trip at the end of the year and taking some of the kids with. Going to do some investigation into the options.

Winter camping can be absolutely wonderful! The most peaceful night of my life was spent in a tent in Terra Nova park in Newfoundland in January 1998. The park is closed in the winter, so I hiked in a way, set up my camp, sat back, and enjoyed the stars and the quiet.
Just make sure you have a tent that either sheds snow well or is very well built. You don't want a bunch of snow falling on a wimpy dome. I remember the date because I caught the tail end of the massive ice storm that hammered Ontario, Quebec, NY, and other bits of the eastern states/provinces. Luckily by the time it got to Newfoundland, the system had turned into snow, and I woke up to a good 2 feet of new snow the next morning. I definitely appreciated the snow-shedding ability of my tent that night.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

We came a day home early after 4 days of rain and 24+ hours of rain in the forecast. At night it was below 40'f and one morning we had a hard frost. I would much rather have snow!
The rain and no sun dropped the water temp and the fish weren't biting well either.
Improvised clothesline because the traditional one hung between two trees did not dry anything. Only the right sleeve was wet because I was rinsing fish and dropped a filet in the lake and grabbed it.
Dinner for two, onion rings and fish. Plenty to eat so I guess I should have left the filet go and kept my sleeve dry.
