I mainly use pine needles and some rotten wood. Like 32t said - I have heard of using bail twine - but all the bails my wife buys for the horse are plastic.

Getting ready to take my first harvest. One hive has a medium super of 10 frames, all capped honey. The second super is about 1/4 full but I will leave that.

The new hive is doing great and drawing out comb in the super but I don't expect anything from it this year.

    Hey Guys,

I stumbled upon this and I thought everyone who is here and either already keeping bees or are wanting to would like to see the 'Magic' as it's happening.

My brother got a hive started this year I may give it a go with this style of a hive.

    I hope ALL will enjoy.

I just pent $302 today for an electric fence. I spoke with another beekeeper in the area where mine are and it scared me into it.

    Hi
There all kinds of pests that want to get into your honey depending on your location.

I took a stab at bee keeping a while ago.
Among other things the county comes through with a mosquito fogger. Yep it does in bees too.

From what I am hearing the bears want the brood more than the honey and in the spring when they come out of hibernation and hungry is the worst time.

I built a fence around my hives. Not electric but my biggest issue is skunks in the area.

Congrats on that! I would be very happy with that as a first yield.
