Thanked: 4206Bottle of woodford reserve gifted to my machinist today, as well as the option to try left seat when the car is back on the road.
Saved my steering arm!
Was able to clear the threads the length I needed.
Now since I still need to cut an inch off, the new mgb tie rod end will thread into good threads, as will the jamb nut.
Sure, all of those chipped threads will be inside the rod , but I’m confident this will thread up, lock down, and hold true!

Thanked: 4206Yes sir! I spread open that outer locking tab and was able to drift off the knuckle. He then had no issues chucking it up and working his magic! Had it done in three passes. Guys good. Straight midnight shift, by choice. I rarely see him. He just spits out the parts and builds all the old pieces we need.
He’s like a Kiebler elf, only gruffer, lol.."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

I suppose good thing your die gave-up pretty quick.
Looks as if it was not doing much on the virgin area by looking at the results.
Wish I had a guy like that!

Thanked: 4206Yup, my die snapped as soon as it hit the fresh steel, which he confirmed was hardened.
I grooved it but didn’t bite in enough to cause any harm. He totally razzed me for even attempting it with a crappy British die in the first place and said I was lucky I signed off on his OT or it’d be a tapered thread when he was done..
Attached the rack temporarily just to check after nipping an inch off the ends and happy to say I have the right adjustments now as hoped. Can toe in or out so once she’s on the ground I’ll be able to true up the track. even though it may be hard to tell in the picture, those front disks are pretty much parallel,!
Have to remove it one last time to clean, install the boots, and fill the rack with 80W90 gear oil before installing it permanent.. and that last step is easiest standing the rack vertically to fill.
They used an oil lubrication, not grease on this rack system so the gators are critical to both the performance, and longevity of the rack."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."
