Hey Ness, what’s the difference between 2k epoxy primer and 2k primer?
I used the proform 2k epoxy primer sealer for my first coats, but can’t see a 2k primer on their site, a few others like 1k and polyester.
Want to ensure I build this up with compatible components. Body work happens now, betweeen the epoxy and subsequent primer steps correct? And do I final sand the bits of body work now or after the next coat?
    Thanks again.
Bought another quart today and was able to get two coats on everyything today so three coats so far total.
    Mike.

Epoxy primer is activated with its hardner…and left to set for a15 minute induction period. There are some epoxy primers that do not have an induction period…just read the instructions. So that epoxy is sprayed on bare metal first …2 wet coats. Then a 24 hour cure….then followed by body filler over the epoxy if needed. Do your body work and if you sand through the epoxy ….just hit it with 1 coat of epoxy…let it flash for one or two hours …then spray your 2k primer surfacer over the epoxy 3-4 wet coats with 20 minute flash time in between coats. Epoxy primer alone, sands like shit…so that is why it’s top coated with a 2k primer/ surfacer ( this stuff fills and block sands nice). The end game is to have epoxy as a base on the bare metal ….and then every other product on top of the epoxy.

No induction time on mine. I just wasn’t sure of 1 or 2k primer next steps.
    Thanks.
Sounds like I’ll be further ahead buying the gallon of this if I’m laying on 4 coats after the bit of filler work still ahead.

Realizing most of this stuff will be sanded away as I get everything blocked down smooth.

Like I said…when your doing your body filler sanding and sand through the epoxy base in various areas …you have to spray one coat of epoxy over the entire panel …wait 24 hours…then apply more mud if needed or a glazing putty to fill in some pin holes or to feather out your body work. When your satisfied with your filler work…..spray one more coat of epoxy….wait 1-2 hours….then spray the 2 part (2k ) primer / surfacer 3-4 good wet coats with 20 minute flash in between coats. Let that dry a couple days …then block sand that with 220 wet

That primer can also be reduced….and used as a sealer

And if you decide to use it as a sealer….get on it with base coat after it flashes off and you can safely tack it off….about 20-25 minutes. If you let it dry too long….before applying base ….you’ll see what I mean.

Been at the tedious stuff this week, with nice weather up here.
Using the evercoat lite filler and a bit of glass strand in a couple spots. Then using my files to cut it down, build a bit more etc.
Had a little distraction this week in the yard so been only able to look at the calendar and try to keep at it..

All but the block sanding completed now on the panels.
Hopefully my block sandr and paper will arrive tomorrow, and I’ll have time to hit the store for my last quart of epoxy primer, as well as the gallon of 2k.
All goes well, I’ll be priming by Wednesday.
Maybe painting before the end of September.

Been a busy couple weeks so minimal progress. Decided to pull out the torpedo heater tonight to see if it stirs up to much dust to use and it didn’t.
Thinking since the nights are already cooling off and my temp window is closing faster than I want I may be super heating the shop to like 80, then shutting off the heater and painting, hoping the residual heat sticks around long eonough to flash off the paint to get passed tack. After that I can fire up the heater again if need be.
At least the sheds still perfectly dry since my last repair. Heavy rains most of the next couple days but I can still paint.
Grabbed another round of the epoxy and the 2k so pushing forward.
