I was thinking the same as Tom. Maybe a rubber bushing to make the Stop softer at the end of the throw? Of course, that might take a bit of door opening away.
BTW, That is one thing I will be doing today is a doorstop. The one on my car is cracked. Part is on the bench ready to be installed. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 4206There is a black rubber stop on the door side, backed up by a machine washer.
The hinge hard bolts into the frame and slides on the door side. It’s a nice lil hinge design and allows a pretty wide opening still.
Need to order an 8” tie rod connecting link to make the new carbs connect, but they are cheap on McMaster, like 10 bucks, and then the fuel delivery system will be completed up front!
Theoretically it will be startable once the fuel line at the tank is connected and could be turned over now.. if the dash was installed.."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4206This afternoon was spent assembling the windshield. First one I’ve ever done.
What a fussy piece of sand that was.
Started with some gifts from a good buddy a while ago. Period correct windshield weatherstripping
Then laid out all the pieces.
Everything has to be drawn in evenly as there are corner clips at the bottom, and the top attachment posts at the top corners. The clips go between the glass and the weatherstripping and the windows not straight so I needed to pull things in from the bottom to the top.
Was a wrestling match all afternoon.
But patience, persistence and luck smiled on me and the task was completed safely and properly..
New rubber along the bottom to ensure the car stays draftless and tomorrow, maybe I can get it installed..
Big gains as all these tasks are coming together.
Cheers gents"Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4206Lunch for my sister behind me, back to it!
And in racing position,
Spent some time as those who followed this thread from the beginning May recall restoring the drivers side post. The pivot post had broken off and been replaced with an ugly through bolt thingy without proper locks or hardware.
The original post thread, a bsf 5/16 thread required a new tap, or some math. I went with math, an 8mm helicoil thread has almost the same pitch so I though it might work and save the day.
The upper hole, still a through hole, but you can see the bottom of the new spring thread inside the hole.
Holds the British thread and post tightly. I will turn a brass plug in the future to fill this hole, and may try to spot chrome it as well,,, later..
Also allowed me to replace the original chrome handles, as well as the conical seals that locks the windscreen in only the up, or down position. A normal washer as was installed as received could still allow the windshield to slide and possibly fly up! Or down in motion.
The original designs of this car had some pretty contemporary, and or elegant safety features built right in..
Hence the slogan, safety fast maybe?
Cheers gents.Last edited by MikeB52; 04-03-2022 at 11:02 PM.

Thanked: 4206Spent some time on the wiper geometry after I realized parts were homemade as received and the angles could be improved to marry up with the external retainers.
These slide over the wiper shafts inside the hood and give a flat plane through the steel, the middle one was the original one in best shape to copy, as shown.
And here sliding through the cowl.
Then locked down from the outside with matched angled chrome caps and lock nuts.
In this park position the windshield still clears the pivots when lowered as the wipers drop as the windshield pivots down.
Oh and guess I wasn’t quite done spending as I realized I never sourced new piping for between the body panels, and to fabricate that stuff just didn’t make any sense by the time I cut the vinyl evenly into lengths and find the tubing etc.
And they had a sale on TD door handles so,,,,

Thanked: 4206Had to get these installed before I go any further.
Another upgrade. Sure purists may like opening the doors at night and having to fumble around in the dark but I like interior lights in my car and I also like to know if there is a raccoon in the boot,, to boot, so need door switches where there were none before.
Nothing scary about drilling new holes in something you’ve been building this long,, no,, no trepidation here,, hehe.
But with the creative use of insetting the switch, and repurposing a wiring grommet, they work as intended and are barely noticeable. Locknuts into the steel frame behind and completed circuits done.
Onwards as I can gents..
Cheers."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4206Final fitment of the dash can occur now that I’m laying in the trim piping.
Also a chance to get a look at how the dash, and my add on panel work together visually.
Everything is still sagging a little low since there is no hardware yet, but damn it fits pretty good. Tight in fact which is what the original did as well. The dash needs to almost squeeze against the piping forming. A tight cushion and finished look. The inside of the glovebox door still to be clad in felt and trim.
I need to get the very mid point adjusted downwards a bit, as the piping gap there is a little wide.
Happy with it though, although the shifter may still need consideration. An extension to pull the shift back 6” perhaps still…."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Damn Mike - that looks fine!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

How many pedestrians are you going to run over with that rearview mirror mounted there?
That would never pass by todays standards.
Of course what else would with this car?
