    Better than I had, anyway.

What are you doing to keep that 8" removable piece of the tunnel to make it water proof?

There is a rubber gasket strip between the new, and the other two section where they fasten together. But I’m rethinking it being removable.. easy enough to get to underneath to lube. And as I think ahead to carpet, don’t know if I want that visible spot to have too many cuts and reliefs.
Will decide at that time. Regardless, if I ever have to drop the shaft again that small panel will make it easy to access.
Plus if I ever want or need to pull the engine again, with the way the tunnel is built now, I can remove the front firewall section and engine, without removing the rear tunnel, floors and seats.
Got the rear panel installed now and am working on the rear window storage box trim.
This is one of those parts of the car I’m building from scratch as I didn’t have one when I acquired the car but think it an important feature to restore, if only to be able to store the side screen windows when not in use.
Been a productive weekend in the garage.

The rear boot, behind the seats is the area I’m working on now yup. Would imagine that would have been a perfect kid friendly space back in the day.
Mine has a new floor board now, and an extra compartment underneath I still need to cut access for.
Waiting till all this is done first so it all makes sense and flows.
I’ve cut the rear trimcovers to house the side screen compartment based on images I’ve seen on the web.

The two vertical pieces were from the original trim pieces, two of a few that survived and gave me something to build from. They have captured nuts and bolt through from the wheel well side. They get wrapped in vinyl before final assy as well.

Still needs hinges along the bottom, and a cross brace under the lid for strength and to align the lid when closed.
Then it all gets covered in vinyl on the outside and clad in felt on the interior.
From there I can start to build out the wheel wells and move forward.
Figure I need to get the doors out of the rafters as they should be going on permanently soon now too.

Funny, that brought back memories. My oldest brother had a Midget and I remember riding back there when I was 8 or 9 years old.

I must have been about 12 , my cousins friend had an MGB and i would sit sideways in the tiny space behind the front seats with my kness up near my ears.

Same experience in a Sunbeam in the late 1960s while in high school. At 6 foot 2 inches that was quite an experience. Can't bend like that now.

When i think about riding down the highway in there as a early teen, I must have been a real sight to see. Probably would be frowned on now by the police! (as i recall there weren't any seat belt laws yet in Oregon in the early 80,s)
