You might think about two mounting points on the shifter instead of just one. Especially with mechanisms that get a lot of repetitive use I normally tend to err on the side of over engineering. You'd hate to have things go south while moving. Consider how careful you'd be with brakes. Just my 2 cents worth. Take it for what you paid for it.

Thanked: 4206Yup, that’s what I meant by cross piece and triangle. No way it’d be reliable with only that through bolt, specially overcoming the reverse detent.
I’m looking back at what’s under the steel for support, and really don’t see how I could fabricate a rear plate to mount a tie rod to to allow the linkage to work as in that cool video.
Need to think on it some more, once the seats are in place and I have a better visual to work with. Cause you are right Tom, the pleasure of the shift can not be understated.Last edited by MikeB52; 05-04-2022 at 03:33 AM.

Thanked: 4206Decided overnight, I can’t work with a shifter that functions on an angle, it’ll piss me off every time I mis shift or look at it as less than the best I could do with what I had available. So I have removed middle covers as required , as well as the shifter itself, to see what’s available.
I could use those two socket head bolts, which connect to the rear isolation mount as leg bases for a 1/4” steel extension plate to which a tie rod could be mounted, then the rest of the linkage fabricated to suit.
I could cut off the extra height of the original and modify the tunnels accordingly,,, maybe..
Gonna order a tie rod and do some mocking up.
Might still be able to pull this off with a stock-ish looking shifter..

I'm not too sure why it shifts on an angle, but that too would be too much for me to be happy with.
If you can do what you're saying and possibly cover the original shifter too including the linkage in a tunnel, it sure would be nicer. But that would take up a lot of space that could make things feel tighter in the cab. Less space. Every little inch of open space makes me feel more comfortable. When it's all tight in a cab I feel confined. But this is a little car, so I guess you do what you can. I guess you can always put an automatic in it?
I will be interested in how this shifter turns out as it's a big deal. It's just Sharpening, right?

Mike, it's got an extension already. Think about extending the extension. Cut and add-in channel. Cut and add-in pipe to extend the shaft. Make some support struts going down to the bolts. Viola!
