You can use a razor blade as a bondo spreader…to fill in them little craters with some glazing putty. I’d paint the whole fender again….Base / Pearl coat / clear. Blending pearls is not for Nubies. You be fighting halos…and metallic tracking ….painters lingo right there.

Thanked: 4206Well sure, be all logical about it,,,
I do have enough paint leftover still from the original paint job.
Would you take it all the way back to primer or just lay the new base on top of what’s there?
It’s a small area to fix right now, but on the drivers fender where I will always see it if I foul it up.
So doing it right after all this work is still my preferred path."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Just scuff the whole panel with 800 grit…but don’t go through the clear coat..then blow some color on your repaired area to get coverage ….use light coats 3-4 ..and tack the fender off ,inbetween coats…then after you get coverage on your repair….give the whole panels 2 coats of base to cover those 800 scratches…then the same amount of Pearl your originally did….then the clear.

Thanked: 4206Base is back on, two coats deep and waiting to apply the clear.
Tempted to plow ahead, but think I waited a day between base and clear..
Getting old and last fall seems so far away

Thanked: 4206Well it’ll definitely be a wait for it to cure and scuff up thing.
Already pollen fluff and flying critters stuck in the paint. So different painting outside. Sigh.
Tacking up now though so the worst is over. I can alway do some small spots with the air brush and still lay the pearl back down before the weekend.
Maybe get things all put back together."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

You have a 24 hour “window” …to get clear on the base coat. After that ,adhesion is lost.

Thanked: 4206I will be laying the clear on tomorrow weather holding.
I scuff up the base lightly with 800 before applying but then only tack between coats of clear if I remember right.
Hopefully don’t get any specks in tomorrows work.
And I attribute both the pandemic, and my lovely wife’s patience to permit me the pace I’ve kept up on this project Shaun. Attention did wain from time to time as other issues cropped up but really, been able to keep at it pretty steadily.
Really excited to get her done this season.."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

DO NOT SAND THE BASE COAT BEFORE APPLYING THE CLEARCOAT.
DO NOT TACK SURFACE IN BETWEEN COATS OF CLEAR EITHER.
