Thanked: 234I like scotch on the rocks, esp if it's blended. For me, it highlights different flavors.
currently, I am drinking a pint of Spitfire.

A good friend of mine in Denver got me into good beer. I'm a big fan of Weihenstephaner hefeweissbier.
Also like several offerings from Flying Dog brewery (microbrew from Denver). Avery brewing company has lots of good ones.
Heaviest beer is either Samaels or Oaked Arrogant Bastard. Yummy stuff.
As for harder alcohol, I like a bit of Patron or Cabo Uno, but will drink most anything that doesn't come off a shelf below my knees.
Whenever I can make myself part with 60 Euros shipping, I like to enjoy a bottle of Lableu Absinthe. Kubler is an acceptable second place absinthe, and I think you can actually get it stateside now.

Thanked: 137I'm a bartender - currently unemployed - so I have lots of favourite drinks.
I LOVE a decent vodka (nothing lower than Stil - basically 42 Below's slightly cheaper brand) or tequila (nothing below Sauza Gold) on the rocks, and a nice Scotch goes down well too.
I also love a good beer, micro-brewed for prefernce. I have no preference for type - I love dark and light beers equally - but my desire for a type changes depending on mood, weather, etc etc.
My favourite shot is either a Brain Haemorrhage (1/2 oz Archer's Peach Schnapps, 1/2 oz Bailey's drizzled into the Archers, with a couple of drops of grenadine dropped through the Baileys) or a shot of my own devising, called Gonorrhea (1/3 oz Midori, 1/3 oz Bailey's, 1/3 oz Absinthe (Chartreuse Green can be used in a pinch) set alight).
My current favourite ****tail is either the Raspari or the Central Otago (although the classics - Sazerac, Mojito, Martini (vodka, slightly dry, lemon twist), or a Caprioska/Caipirinha - always hit the spot)*finds his little black book of ****tails*
Raspari:
Muddle 6-8 raspberries with half a lime's juice (~1/2 oz). Add 1 oz vodka, 1oz Campari, 1/2 oz sugar syrup. Shake and strain into an old-fashioned glass packed with crushed ice.
Central Otago: Take 4 halves of canned apricot. Caramelise (flambe) in 1 oz Wild Turkey Honey Liquer, 1/2 oz Grand Marnier. Muddle three of the apricot halves with 1 oz Canadian Cub, 1 oz Apricot Brandy, 1/2 oz Galliano, and two bar-spoonfuls of the flambe mixture. Shake, double strain into a martini glass, garnished with the 4th apricot half.

Kubler is a good brand if you can find it. It does have lower thujon content, but I actually like it as well as several other imports I have tried.
As far as the thujon (extract of wormwood) goes, there is a guy whose name escapes me right now who was analyzing a bunch of the older batches that were actually from way back. It seems most of them didn't have anywhere near the thujon of todays blends.
He actually distills the stuff now adhering to the old recipes, but only in small batches and at ridiculous prices. If I remember the name I'll edit it in here.
FOUND IT: T. A. Breaux is the guy. He makes Jade Absinthe http://www.bestabsinthe.com/index2.htm the prices seem to be more reasonable than they were a year or so ago. Novelty must have worn off.
I usually order from http://www.alandia.de/ the shipping is on the high side, but if your order gets snagged by customs and you send them the seizure form, they will replace it. They also sell the "bitters" with the highest thujon content available anywhere.Last edited by Mudkipz; 06-20-2009 at 01:00 AM.

Tonight I'm going back to some of the Bushmills "Black Bush" that I got myself recently, but earlier this week a (very generous) friend of mine bought me a bottle of Lagavulin 16. I would be having that tonight, but I want to make it last. It is outstanding.
