Pushrod covers will be black. I was kind of working around this color scheme for the motor.

Thanked: 995I own one. They ride just like they look. The design choices were very deliberate. BMW wanted a stripped down version that you have to ride using your own wet computer. Example: I love my BMW's when I can see how much fuel is left. The R9T does not have a fuel gauge, only the 4 liter warning light. Oh well, back to using the trip mileage again.
Of course, like any bike, the owners bitch about everything that BMW did or didn't do, just like any manufacturer's bike. Things could have been different and some of them could even improve the bike a bit. I've owned an old Triumph and Harley bikes. You get used to the idiosyncrasies. Do they leave oil spots, do you have to hold your lips just right to get it to start? I want to ride, not fiddle with a bunch of stuff.
The R9T is a great ride. OTOH: this weekend I was riding on dirt roads in the mountains for some of about 550 miles. The suspension is for the street, the seat is for shorter trips, there is no place for gear to tie down very well. Not that the bike won't go anywhere its 1200GS cousin won't go...but it's not really built for that kind of ride. I enjoyed carving up the black top and put up with the washboards.
If anyone gets to Washington and wants to know some nice side roads, let me know.

Old Sportster is dying, so I was casually looking for a replacement. I found a XL1200S at a price that I just couldn't pass up, so I brought her home. Pulled off a whole lot of junk (windshield, sissy bar, saddle bags and supports, ugly aftermarket pegs, etc). I still think she's ugly, but she's got a great motor. Now it's time to make her mine...

That's such a terrible thing to see!
I've been a rider of 2 wheels for around 50 years now & started out on a homemade minibike that was direct drive v belt with no clutch or no brakes powered by a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower engine. I've been riding Harley's for over 30 years now & currently my only transportation is one of my Harley's. I've been down a few times because of people not paying attention & the one thing these days that bothers me most out of several things is the fact that people drive & talk on a cell phone or text! It seems every time I get out on the road, I avoid an accident when people don't watch what is going on around them. I have lost a few friends from motorcycle accidents. I lost one friend/co-worker who was parts manager at a Harley dealer I was turning wrenches at, when he was on his way home one night & was going down a very dark road in the country. He rear ended a car that had stalled in the middle of the road & had no emergency flashers on. My last time down was because of a drunk driver. If I can still ride after a spill, i will get back on one. I guess it's in my blood. One of the scariest feelings I've ever had was sitting at a stop light & hearing screeching brakes coming from behind me but when I'm stopped, I always have an escape route. I avoided an accident one time when I saw an apparent drunk driver going all over the road & was coming up behind me so I moved & the car rear ended the other vehicle I had been behind! I don't discriminate what make of motorcycle you ride, we all have the love of enjoying the wind in our face & the ride itself on two wheels so wherever you are on your motorcycle, please ride safe & watch out for the crazy people driving cages.
