Yep, I have seen that movie a few times. When I was turning wrenches at a Harley dealership, my boss took us to the Alamo Drafthouse to go see it. I haven't seen it in awhile, so maybe I should dig it out & watch it. Anthony Hopkins did a great job in that movie, even if it is a bit dramatised but I love all his work. I love the part when he raced the guy at the beach.
Burt Munro was a motorcycle genius in his time. He blew his motor up several times but would rebuild it with what he had. There. are also a couple of books about him. one Good run & Legend of Speed: The Burt Munro Story. The guy was amazing. You can see in the 6th pic where he is pointing at where the motor came apart at the cylinder base.

I swapped out the apes for some Biltwell Friscos. The left hand grip had stripped screws, so I have to sort that out. I think it looks much better, and I like the riding position, too. Plus now I can route the throttle cables through the trees so they don't flap out 90 degrees to my right anymore.

There ya go. I had internal handlebar wiring down & I could do it pretty fast. It cleans up all those wires outside.
While at work one day, I had plenty of throttle cable ferrules in my toolbox so I always used one of those tied to some Spyderwire & would drop it through at the center of the handlebars & it would drop out the opposite end where the internal wiring would go. I replaced a broken throttle cable one day & I started thinking, so I took the ball end of the cable after I pulled the broken cable out of the housing & I connected it to the ferrule & pulled the cable through. It was then I realized it was much easier to pull the wires through with an old cable rather than using the Spiderwire because it would eventually break. I then started using an old throttle cable to pull wires through the handlebars. It worked well & I could pull wires through the handlebars pretty quick.

Well I got a chance today to look at my tank and yup its the petcock that is the problem. Unfortunately google has failed to find me the parts I actually need to fix the problem, seems what went wrong with mine is not what usually goes wrong with these things. Even found complete petcock repair kits that are not actually complete they are missing the 2 parts I need Found one place that you can shop by picking the part numbers off the diagram but nope the parts I need are not available. Switched to looking for complete petcocks and have no problem finding them for all but my model (1980 KZ750E).
Really frustrated at this point. Cleaned up and put the bike away. Seems this is gonna be a case of spending more time on the computer than with the bike to get it fixed.
I think I may have to figure out how to finangle a different petcock into my tank. Will probably require longer hoses as well.
In the meantime at least I have the SE50 to putz around on.

I've been riding for almost 29 years (this December). Started when I was 9.

Every bike I've had has been amazing for its time. Gotta put my race bikes at the top. So purpose driven: TZ 250's and Factory Aprilia.

Down from there I loved all of my Harley's, in their own way. My Road Glide is real nice.

Lately I've made it back to the dirt, and been riding a plated '05 KTM 450 EXC. Super fun.

Best road story, well for the reader it would be the night a *RAT* (I crap you negative) hitched a ride on my BMW GS1100 on my way home from Hollywood one night. It's true I was drinking one or two, but this is the Gods truth. I didn't see him for about 15 miles, then looked down to see him hanging on my handlebar, at 80mph. I made the quick decision to save him. I pulled him into my chest and rode to the side of the Ventura freeway to drop him off. He's in a better neighborhood now.
That was hilarious !!! LOVE this story! where are the stars? I give ya 5 all the way
