Thread: Pipe of the Day

I got about 47 ounces of Captain Black in my cellar that I don't care for. I opened 1 of 2 24 ounce tins and I can't make it past an ounce. The "deal" that I got on them wasn't much of a deal. I don't know if the 23 oz is worth the jar I put it in. I am glad that I sampled it with a cheap cob because I have never noticed as much ghosting in a pipe as that. I won't let it touch another of my pipes! I wonder if it will repel Zombies?

These Pipe of the Day posts are truly great fun, when you're in the middle of a pipe binge! Got my Tobacco of the Month care package, containing this tobacco, which I've heard great things about. Then, along came this new Peterson Handmade House Pipe, which I'd gotten a good deal on.
Voila, Pipe of the Day! See? Great fun.
Hope this finds you all well, and enjoying your own adventures.

I've been slow at posting... And slow at smoking... The farmers are bringing in the crops, beans and corn, talk about stirring up the dust!
On top of that, they are spreading the fields with pig SH*T before the snow flies...
A few pictures of some of my stash...
1/2 pint jars work great for 2oz's... Pint jars for 4oz's... I don't go much bigger than that...
I have seen some people use the jar box to keep the jars in and stack them in a dark closet for aging...
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated...

Thanked: 49That brings back memories. Captain Black is the first tobacco that I remember my Dad smoking. I loved the smell it left.
Then Borkum Riff, Prince Albert, and Half and Half which he smoked exclusively until he quit. I used to buy him Dr. Grabows and sometimes Meerschaum pipes for Christmas. Mostly he bought cobs for himself. It never occured to me to buy him "good" tobacco.“To be fair, I did have a couple of gadgets which he probably didn’t, like a teaspoon and an open mind.”

Thanked: 45Nosewarmer, custom labels for your jars, that is true dedication my friend!
I'm a bit lazy, I just scribble with a sharpie. The nice thing about jars, is u can see the flakes and the crystals forming on them. When u are ready to crack open one, you can pick the one that looks the best.
Tonight's enjoyment.

I remember that i tried Capt Black but that was many moons ago. Probably didn't like it that much as i never tried again.
But (as far as i know) it's one of those 'regular' pipe tobaccos in the US. Just like we have our Kilta ('Guild'). Not my choice these days either but the red-white-black pouch looks exactly the same as it was when it all started in 1939. Sort of history.
Started my serious pipe smoking career (must be so many years ago) with McB Navy flakes. And it was all i smoked for a year or two. Nowadays when trying it (on some rare occasions) i feel like prof Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes: criminal always returns to the crime site
But here's my friday eve pipe. Tillerman flakes from Jarl. Valkiria white ale from Poland on the side.
