Gonna step outside my hotel in San Jose for some Pembroke in a Pete. I keep this pipe in my briefcase for when I travel for work. The 1911 comes along too and yes, you can get a CCW in California. Have a good day gents.

Thanked: 8What is a CCW? We Brits are not allowed to carry, Which is a shame because I would have liked such a thing when my lawnmower was nicked the other weekend. Still if did do the thief any harm I would have gone to jail, he would have likely got off scott free. I envy you Yanks sometimes.

Off topic this goes but we have no term as 'ccw' either. There is no difference between carrying open or ccw.
If you have a licence for a gun you can carry it open or ccw whenever you have a reason to do so but not when you have no such reason. So, i have licenses for both my 9 mm and Nagant rifle but carry them only when going to range or work.
When at work, either in police, military or border guards we of course carry whatever we have. I should carry a pistol ar work but it's been years since i've done that.Last edited by Sailor; 04-14-2014 at 09:09 PM.

CCW is an acronym for "concealed carry weapon," and refers to a license to carry a concealed firearm. In California, we are allowed up to three handguns on a permit/license, and they are generally issued by the sheriff of the county of your residence.
Sorry to hear about your lawnmower, hope you get it back in working order.
