Not to go OT with this thread....But.....I just acquired a bunch of pipes from a small collection still in the boxes, excellent condition IMO. I think all but one have never seen pipe tobacco. Can any of you tell me about these makers, Demuth and Lenox? I'm a novice pipe smoker - with a couple of cheap ones I guess I want to know if I'm stepping up. I have a Kay Woodie and a no name
I can take some pic's if that helps.

Never heard about Lenox, but Demuth was an US/New York pipe brand that was in production until 1970 or so.

Not heard about Lenox. A photo with the logo would help.

There are two possible references about Demuth. One is Demuth Lancaster, PA and the other is WDC (William Demuth Pipe Company) look in : De-Dem -- Pipes : Logos & Markings and William Demuth Company - Pipedia and Hackert - Pipedia

    Enjoy your pipes!!!

Well Lancaster PA would make sense as I'm 20 min. South of Lancaster, Thanks!

Found it on Google maps. Demuth's of Lancaster County Pa Operated from 1770 to 2010. From the article I read it was closed due to a family squabble. Apparently the store was sold to the Demuth Foundation, the stores doors are locked with all it's contents inside still, from what I read... learn something new everyday.

Gents I have a question, I am sure one or two of you may have come across this. I looked in my Caravan mix tin today to find that my humidifier stone had dried. And the was a clump of baccy stuck to it. The backy looked a bit funky and had what i may consider to be mould on it. I removed it and the tobacco immediately and cleaned the sone which is currently being air dried. I have looked through the rest of the tobacco and it looks fine. So i filled a bowl and about halfway through wondered if I should still be smoking this tobacco??????
