I trimmed down the shank, drilled out the shank hole and started the fitting process... Come to find out, this pipe was more of a straight than a bent...

After that, I cleaned up the chamber, drilled it to .75"... Fitted the new orange stem (the white had to much of a bend) and voilą, it took it's maiden voyage with Captain Black Original!

    It smoked like a Cob

Enjoying a day off. Smoking son royal jersey that was sent to me by NW. Thank you again. In a joby. So first bowl of this blend . so far is lights easy with no bite. Nice subtle flavor. As I'm smoking I'm getting caught up on some housework . Then to go through my tobacco cabinet. And make heads or tails out of it . Have a goodnight friends 8

I am back in the house now warming up. Took me much longer than it should have but I have to BS with the neighbors and also had a package arrive from Nosewarmer with some Lane 1-Q, a cob, three star grey and to top it off a hand carved spoon. As I was loading the cob with the 1-Q I sneezed a few times and I thought Hmmm... It smelled a lot to me like the Captain Black I sent him. Hmmm... You didn't send me some that back did you! The smoke was much different than I expected from the smell though. Very mild with no bite and stayed lit once started. Lasted almost my whole shovel routine and I relit it once just at the end and that gave a little funky taste that I think was just the new pipe.

We are at the southern edge of the snow and got maybe 4 inches here. I work a few miles north and we got at least 8 there. The southern suburbs just got a dusting from what I heard. Heavy snow and that has to get shoveled before it gets to cold. Our first -0' F temps are due within the next week.

I will have to try to get ambitious and get the camera going here.

Nope on the Captain... Lane 1Q is made by the same maker as the Captain... , but is a different bend completely...

1Q to me has the same qualities as the Captain, but is much more mellow, calm and smooth... The taste is great, while not over bearing in my opinion...

As far as the funk, it might be the varnish that they use at the factory... Should burn out quickly...

Of all the English blends that I have tried, Northwoods is the best in my opinion... Seems to have some depth to it and seems to be a "new" blend each time it smoke it...

I need about 8oz on hand...

Yeah so far it seems I got two types that are my Regular go to's now. McClellands 2000 for my Non English and Boswells for my English I'm the same with the 8 Oz. rule also. If I had to rate them I would say a 10 for each and each is a good example of their catagory.

By the radar it looks like this morning you are going to have to do a little shoveling.

It started around midnight and I'm not sure what time it ended... But only a skiff... The wind blew too hard to keep it around...

Woke up early this morning to find that the bottom had fallen out of the thermostat. Yesterday its pushing 70F and this morning its 25F. So I decided to fight off the chill with a nice cup of tea, and an Extra large cob filled with a mixture of OJK, Irish Flake and just a bit (maybe 1/6th) of Esoterica Pembroke.
