Default A Little Bit of Tobacco History...

Yesterday the wife, daughter and I went for a nice afternoon drive around the county...

One of the small communities that we drove through is about 15 miles from my home and about a year ago I first saw the art work photo on a building wall in the town (see attached photo)...

An adjacent building caught fire and was later torn down last year and this appeared for all to see, very well kept, bright and vibrant colors for the age...

I'm guessing that maybe it was painted in the 30's-40's but I could be wrong... I know that Bull Durham had a long faithful standing with advertisement and their customers...

I hope this type of history comes to light more often than not...

After doing a little more research, attached is a photo from the local newspaper of the art work fresh after the demolition of the adjacent building...

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated...

Some years ago now,we had a building in South Denver that had that very same mural painted on the side of it. There was a big legal hoo ha about it because the building owner wanted to paint over it and the powers that be were fighting it. eventually there was a compromise ? half the sign was left and you can see it still but half might as well be none as it destroys the integrity of the mural. It was about a hundred years old and that's why the fight to keep it intact arose. We lost to modernism !

    Painted or lazered?

My guess, paint/stain on a string.

I remember those types of displays from when I were a wee sprat. Used to see'em in the gas stations a lot. Those were the days .
