    Thomas,

There is no warmer better than Latakia!
Well, maybe decent fireplace and genuine Russian vodka work ok too

For me it's not very strong, it's a mild brandy, the spanish brandy has more alcohol and the scent is powerful too (talking about a good brandy as Peinado or Duque de Alba)

the cheapest Brandy in 1975 in the former GDR was the Goldbrand

    The Wismut-miners got the so-called "Kumpel-Tod" = " Dead-miner"
It was like Wodka and they got it for some Pfennige/ cents.

Falls in the same category as Gin, Slivovicka, Unicum Swack, Estonian/Lithuanian/Latvian herb liqueurs and Finnish Marshals drink. Drink at your own risk and face the consequences. I know, i am experienced

This is interesting. I still have an unopened bottle of Doppelkorn that i bought in 1984 when i first time went to army. Never opened it, don't know why. Maybe there were better alternatives. What makes it special is that it was made in GDR/DDR, 'Tool-Germany' as we said, because of the crescent and the hammer in the flag. If there's ever a change that we meet, i promise to open it for for us.

I always thought that i save it for some special occasion. Recently, few weeks ago my wannabe son-in-law went to army. Usually our conscripts serve about a year, that is what basic training takes, but he joined the FRDF, a brigade where they were supposed to enlist after conscript year to be deployed in Afganistan or 8 other countries we have forces. I told him not to, not to make exact the same mistakes i've done but what do these kids listen to us dinosaurs these days?
Upon his 1st vacation he asked to marry my daughter, and that is really Rapid Deployment indeed. I thought i save the Doppelkorn for their wedding, but i have some more valuable bottles for that!
