New Pipe smoker
Hi Gents... I've been straight razor shaving for over a year now, and, like many of us, I've fallen head over heels in love with it!! I've recently purchased my first pipe, a Savinelli Duca Carlo Rhodesian. I realize its on the "entry-level" price scale, but I figured a good start nonetheless! I do have a question for you more experienced pipe smokers...what is the proper way to pack the bowl when using a flake tobacco? For instance, I have a tin of Escudo Navy deluxe flake and one of Dunhills flake. Thanks so much for any input--Nick

Yes, I've been a cigar guy for about 15 years... I find I actually enjoy the pipe a bit more now!

Thanked: 1160Like Buckeye I fold it and then roll it to break it up a bit. Pack enough to get a good draw through the bowl but not so tight that it feels plugged if that makes sense.

Yes, it does make sense, thank you! That's pretty much what I've been doing, but I think I was really taking pains to break it up quite small, and so it takes quite a bit more than is probably necessary to pack the bowl on a bulldog.

Thank you very much!! And you are right, just like with our razors, a high price tag does not always equal a great shave! As for the cob, I've already got one!! That was actually my VERY first experience with pipes, a Missouri Meerschaum! Glad to know I'm not the only one!!
