Thanked: 983Too true Don, and like I said. I can't speak, read or write in German, so I shouldn't be picking on a bi-lingual persons English ...I suppose I do speak, read and write in Welsh to a small degree, but by no means am I as fluent in that as Tom is in English.

Mick,
if there are mistakes in my posts, please still correct me.
Most of the time I write without a dictionary because I'm a lazy old dog!

That's no prob...
I'm still learning.
I think we need in Europe one language/ we have to share one language. This one language should only be English!

Thanked: 983I like the fact that there is such diversity in language. Yes, it helps if there is a common language to cross barriers, but that shouldn't be to the detriment of the language of the country. Look at Wales. It's still struggling to gain back some of it's identity after the attempted eradication of the language by the English. Even in my own family (Welsh), I have relatives that say they have no use for their native language, and can't speak much more than a few words of it anyway. The brain washing of the 'Welsh Not' has left a long lasting blemish, that is hard to get rid of. People still think that to get anywhere, they should only speak English, as Welsh is 'a backwards language'and 'inferior'.

National identity is necessary in the future too. But if the people like to work or live in another European country it would be fine to have one language for all the Europeans.
