Mick,
sometimes the exhibitors sell some products, sometimes cheaper prices there.
Yes, I'll say "hello" to the Marttiini-boys.
Cold Steel also...
But I think you should order your blades directly. Marttiini will also send their products to down under..
P.S. can't find Leatherman in the exhibitor-list... fu...Last edited by eTom; 03-06-2013 at 01:36 PM.

Marttiini is just one of the many 'big' knife makers here. Iisakki Järvenpää and Sorsakoski are also ones that have a good reputation. There are several more and of course there's a lot of individual knife makers.
For obvious reason, the prices for Marttiini knives for international webpages or local tourist areas are lot higher than here in local grocery shop or gas station.
Back in the past there was a knife makers in almost every village, and that is where the roots of those big one like Marttiini still is. Many of those makers have still sort of a reputation of making beautiful knives. Not sort of a collectables as you can find old knives from flea markets or auction very cheaply, with a coin or two.
From the model of the knife and specially from the steath you can usually know the area or province the knife was made, but not with modern knives made to exports.
A quick search gave me a link to Finnish knife types. Sorry it's in Finnish but at least you can see the pics.
And few of the Järvenpää and individual maker Kamppila: Ahti knives. I do not know if they sell exports but at least for the pics.
There's still few knife makers in town. Next time i get there i will ask if they know any links in English.
And not to get totally off topic, as usual, here's my potd after work. CF from Oldenkott.

Since we're still talking about knives... Here is one that I have my eye on:
Marttiini Skinner:
And as I said... The Puukko that Tomi was kind enough to send:
And custom SOB Sheath:
And to keep this thread on topic ... A cherry wood pipe that I have had for awhile and did a few more things too... Brass ring & long black lucite stem...

Yes we do... For quality products... Now I just need a Reindeer Fur Coat.... TOMI!
Oh, not to get off topic again... About the language situation...
For the first 6 months of being in Iraq I tried to isolate myself from the culture... I thought that I wasn't going to be there as long as I was... It was hard on me and my students with that attitude...
When I embraced the culture, language and the people, my job was so much easier and pleasant... I would do it again in a heart beat...
One thing I could do is understand what they were talking about, not only buy a few words that they would speak, but by their hand jesters, tone of voice and the elements those they were speaking of...
Arabic is said to be the 2 hardest language to learn, Chinese being the first...Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated...

Thanks friend. I think we need it. The whole EU does.
That is a beautiful knife. Those ornaments in the handle are special. I've never seen anything like that before here.
All good for our economy.
What it comes to exports, this has been almost the best this far. My son was one of those who built it.
Seems that we are on the list too
No pic of my evening pipe now. There's hell of an ice storm going on.Last edited by Sailor; 03-06-2013 at 06:14 PM.
