Thanked: 203Agree that it is just plain rude to visit somewhere and not make an attempt at the language and customs. Only problem is, if you don't use it you lose it. I learnt a little French and German in school. Afterwards a smattering of Swahili, Bantu, Sioux Indian, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish. Years later, i've lost most of it. Things sound familiar but trying to make sense is hard. Guess that means i need to get back to travelling more....

Thanked: 32I think you are right about sensitivities and advantages for taking on a universal language. Not sure if you guys are aware of the attempts to construct "international auxiliary language" like Esperanto (constructed in 1887) to avoid the sensitivity and bias of using an existing language for international negotiations. I think it is an interesting concept. Not likely to succeed, but interesting.

Thanked: 983Language is one of the few things that, if not used, the brain can and does erase. You literally can forget speech.
Now I think I might go and smoke my Peterson Churchwarden. I need to re-acqaint myself with that one I think. BK Cherry Cav as usual.

Thanked: 1185If the site was in German, I would struggle to say the very least. My hat is off to the non-native English speaking members. On a great day, my Spanish is marginal and Tagalog (Filipino) is passable but if the site were in either of those languages I doubt I could do as well as ETom or Sailor do on a daily basis in English.

Good morning Gents!
Yesterday night I paid a visit to a pipe maker in my area, who is a colleague of the guy who plays the guitar in my band. It has been an amazing experience!
The pipe maker's name is Lucio Chiodo, anybody knows him? He makes pipes since 40 years, he told me he started when he was 14. We spent three hours together and he explained me a lot of details and techniques of his work, from lacquer production and use to briar preparation to mouthpiece making and so on...
At the end I went away with four pipes, that he kindly lent me to see which I prefer. Now I just need a hand in chosing my new pipe... Here is a picture:
The first is extremely elegant, the green one feels great in my hand, the longer one is impressively solid, and the blue one has wonderful colour tones... I just can't decide! Suggestions are welcome!
Also, if somebody likes these pipes and wants some pipe porn, I have a PPT file with many of his works. Ask for it in a private message and I'll send it to you! It's not a price list, just a lot of pics!
Regards,

Mauri,
Those are beautiful pipes. Whatever you choose, you can't go wrong.

IWA & OutdoorClassics - Welcome to IWA & OutdoorClassics
"40 years of the IWA & OutdoorClassics success story in Nuremberg
The national product show for the retail gun trade and gunsmiths opened its doors in Nuremberg for the first time in 1973 with just under 100 exhibitors. The international name IWA & OutdoorClassics is due to the rapidly increased importance beyond the borders of Germany and the multi-theme range of products, which covers the spectrum between traditional craftsmanship and innovative ideas for outdoor equipment, functional clothing, hunting sports and shooting sports. In the 40th year of its existence, IWA & OutdoorClassics 2013 presents a more attractive, more colourful and more comprehensive event that is a must for trade and industry."
