    “George Braunsdorf, left, 6 feet 4 inches and Joe Damone, 5 feet 1 inch, demonstrate a pipe called the “Double Ender” in New York, June 2, 1949. According to its manufacturer, the pipe was designed as a means of conserving tobacco by a couple of pipe smokers down on their luck, or, sharing a smoke at a ball game.”

    Mr. Paronelli has some interesting pipes. I have 3 of them, 2 are good and one is not so much... but the old briar he has is well seasoned. If you can find a well done pipe, it's a little treasure.

    I have a question for my friends in countries with snowy climates . I had to call in to work due to the bad road conditions the other day . And it got me thinking, what happens when the whole winter is like that? How do jobs respond?

    On 99% of cases county keeps the road clear. No problem at all. And the rest of the cases they call the army or local prison to clear the roads.

    Snow is not the problem where i live but the floods are. Happens few times every year. Nowadays while serving in the Navy it's no problem. I just call that i wont be able to get to the base and that is ok. In a case of a hurry they send a boat or AFV to pick me. Hasn't happened too many times.

    Seem to me we should utilize our prisons more like that,I think we used to way back in the day.As for the boat.....well......that's one way to commute to work .

    Back years ago, as a kid i read a book 'Last places' by Lawrence Millman. It was like seeing the light Ever since i've been interested in places with not much tourists around.

    I'm the same mate, but L.A did nothing for me where as N.Y did. I can't explain it. I hate the 'big smoke'! I'm country born and bred, but there was a certain something about N.Y that had me wanting to see more of the place.

    Default The Song of the Pipe

    The Song of the Pipe

    When the night air is shading ’round you,
    And the lake is lying still;
    When you hear the evening tuning,
    Of the lonely whippoorwill;
    When the woods are big and silent,
    And the world seems all at rest;
    And the cheerful fire is blazing,
    Then your good old pipe is best.

    When you are tired out from tramping,
    Through the winding forest ways;
    And you’ve had your trout and coffee,
    And you dream of future days;
    When you sit close to the fire,
    Then the time is surely ripe;
    With the owl’s bark resounding,
    To fill up the good old pipe.

    When the dreary rain is falling,
    And the world is wet and gray;
    When the loon’s long, dismal holler,
    Rolls out clear and dies away;
    When the woods are all adripping,
    From the alder to the oak;
    Then just lay back in your chair,
    And hit good old pipe, and smoke.
