Thread: Pipe of the Day

This was the nights supper ........Marmite n Creamcheese Turkey Sammies on French bread w/sweet gherkins,cherry tomatoes,grapes,fig and orange slices and a wee glass of Pelegrino sparkling mineral water............And this was dessert.....Viking Sandblast quarter bent with MacBaren Plumcake .....Yummeh. Life can be very tasty if you let it be so !!

Been spending this week at work (life sucks ). Transporting and supplying those green little boys and girls from the Fast Landing units from NBG. Just one of those times i've watched them getting wet and running their arses off somewhere in the coasts of Baltic. There were times i did it myself, but nowadays i've decided that the one and only proper way to do the amphibious landing (for me) is to sit on a ship bridge, drink coffee and smoke pipe. Watch others doing the swetty & wet parts.

I know nothing about pipes, and don't want too really, but I thought someone might be interested to know that there is a Dunhill red briar pipe for sale in one of my local op sbops. They want $295 for it. I can go in again maybe tomorrow or Monday if anyone wants any.more info.

Sailor, once again, great pictures. So, you are allowed to smoke your pipe while aboard your ship? I may be wrong, but I don't think that would fly over here. Hey, the other day I was looking up a spork on Wikipedia and ran across the Lusikkahaarukka, which, of course; I now want. I found it interesting that the wiki said that a knife wasn't added to the mess kit because men are allowed to carry their own puukkos and it was assumed that everybody had one. Is this still the case?
Anyway, enjoy watching the other guys get wet and muddy while you enjoy your pipe!! Take care, Don

Dunhills have a famous reputation among those who are looking not only decent pipe but luxury brand as well. I think you can smoke either 10€ cob or estate or some damn pricey Tsugo or Ser Jacopo Insanata and get equally good smokes and be happy with what you got.
Dunhill's are nice but probably nowdays only for people of the whole different income class than me.

'Luha's are still here; issued to everyone at the forces. Handy when you're on field. Haven't used mine for years.

Smoking is sort of a grey area i guess. It used to be allowed everywhere, even inside the ship. Nowadays they've tried to make it difficult but i've yet to see the big chief who really had to guts to ban smoking when on the decks. Wouldn't work here.
In some bases they 'officially' banned smoking, unoficially nothing changed. It always makes laugh when seeing people smoking happily under 'no smoking' -sign.

I wish I had today my collection of O.D.A.s (18) I sold 10 yrs ago

I have happily never paid more than $100.00 for a pipe. if I ever win the lottery...we'll see.

Precisely why I've never been a huge fan of Dunghills. For pennies on the dollar you can get a pre-1938 Kaywoodie that used older and better briar. If this were a pipe forum I'd probably be banned for saying so but IMHO a four digit Kaywoodie is every bit the smoke minus the exorbitant price tag
