Thanks for the link. I guess i have to take a try with Ironsides with my next online order from UK or Germany. Those aren't available here.

Anyways. Early evening pipe. Peterson & Irish flakes. Strong stuff.

Irish Flake is indeed a wonderful breakfast blend. All the vitamin N a growing boy needs to start the day Goes really nice with a stout cup of coffee as well. Speaking of full bodied burley blends and a stout cup of coffee, here's my POTD.

C&D Old Joe Krantz in a 1940s Whitehall Grand National, fresh cup of joe on the side. If there's anything better than a stout burley with coffee the Almighty must have kept it for himself

First time i read about Old Ironsides was from the pages of Nordisk Tobakskollegium. Someone mentioned it but there was no pic of the tin so i had to laugh a little. I thought that it is a revenge of the Irishmen. Better late than ever.
    As usual, i was wrong.

Let me explain: As we all remember from school (at least we should remember) that Old Ironsides wasn't just a certain ship that served at War of American Independence. Also well known English gentleman Oliver Cromwell (at 1600 - something) was known as Old Ironsides.
He was a statesman, puritanist and a military leader. Whenever this merry fellow had time from other important duties, he spent it wisely by slaughtering Irish, Scotch as well as English people, his own countrymen. He also sent thousands of Irish people into slavery. Very fine gentleman, indeed, but not someone i would like to call my friend.
And what's worst: he prohibited tobacco growing in England. Obviously he must have been one of the first nanny-state politicians ever.
So when i heard about this blend i thought it was a sweet irony to name a tobacco after famous anti-tobaccionist. Revenge of the Irish. Now they finally got it. Had i seen the pic of the tin i would have known that it was about a ship. Oliver doesn't have to turn in his grave.
Sailor, Thanks for the informtion... I never paid any attention in school about history, but in my older years things like this now interest me...

    Oh... Olivers years were 1599-1658

    Stanwell .45 ACP

Well, got my new Mac's and configured it yesterday.

Here some information about Old Ironsides:
Source: Dan Pipe | Pfeifen, Zigarren, Tabak, Pfeifentabak, Zubehr, Lauenburg a.d. Elbe

The name comes from the oldest warship of the American Fleet. The people gave the U.S.S. Constitution the name: "Old Ironsides"
The tobacco is very good stuff!

That Stanwell is really beautiful, Manah. Any idea of it's age?

It's a modern Stanwell pipe. My wife bought it to me in 2007.

Finally got some Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake. Smoked a quick bowl out of a cob just to give it a go. First impressions were very good. Hopefully tonight I can smoke a proper bowl, out of a proper pipe (get some pics to post as well)

Yesterday I had a small surprise in the mail. I had entirely forgotton about a kind offer from, and forgive me if I'm wrong, it's been a while, Devilpup, to send me his small corn cob pipe. Well the last I heard, his kind offer had been rejected, probably by Aussie customs, though I don't really know. Anyway, it appears to me that this fine Gentleman was not to be thwarted in keeping his word. The CC that arrived was most definately unused, brand new in fact. Yes I know they are only a few dollars (from the website) so the expense was not great, but the time and trouble taken just to do a favour, is worth much more. So thank-you Chris. You'll be glad to know it arrived safe and sound.
I've only had one smoke out of it, and have to say it's a good first impression (and a smaller bowl is a tobacco saver in this expensive over taxed country). Appreciated my friend, truly.

    Mick
